Specific Obligations

Ø The overall responsibility for issuing reports from the department of Haematology, Clinical Pathology and Cytology and under your signature.

Ø View and report blood films and bone marrow slides

Ø Report on blood, urinalysis, and coagulation tests

Ø Report test results on blood samples using the cell counter and manual techniques

Ø Report the test results of Malarial and Filarial parasite investigation

Ø Report on results of cross-matching of blood

Ø Report the coagulation test results

Ø Review and authorise the reports released during the night by the department staff

Ø Identify unusual/incorrect results and take appropriate action to make corrections and solve problems

Ø Select appropriate techniques for different types of haematological analysis

Ø Report the clinical pathology samples tested by dipstick and manual methods

Ø Provide Clinical advise to patients and clarify their doubts regarding the test results issued from the department

Ø Liaise with other doctors to discuss patient treatment plans





Ø Maintain accurate and detailed records regarding the Quality control practices followed for all tests done in the department.

Ø Deal with the complaints pertaining to the department of haematology, cytology and clinical pathology as and when they are arised.

Ø Attend and participate in educational activities, including the training and evaluation of department staff.

Ø Be aware of the daily work process and supervise the same in the haematology department including reagent consumption and stock positions.

Ø Have a working awareness of the ISO-15189 and NABL-112 standards where applicable to the department of Haematology, Cytology and Clinical Pathology

Ø Participate in regular internal audits to assess and monitor the performance of the department

Ø Sign medical certificates and comprehensive health checkup reports when required.

Ø Perform FNAs and report on the slides.

Ø Perform and report on exfoliative cytology tests

Ø Assist in the grossing of biopsy samples when required.
