Key Responsibilities and Duties
Blueprint Analysis: Examine technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to understand the scope of the project.
Quantity Take-offs: Accurately measure and quantify all required electrical components (e.g., conduits, wire, switchgear, fixtures).
Cost Calculation: Compute labor hours, equipment, subcontracts, permitting, and potential waste to build competitive rate buildups.
Vendor Management: Solicit quotes from suppliers and negotiate prices to secure the best rates for materials.
Tender & Bid Preparation: Compile all estimates into official, structured bid proposals and manage RFIs (Requests for Information).
Profitability & Risk Analysis: Evaluate the financial feasibility of projects and identify potential risks or scope gaps.
Core Requirements
Education: A Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant trade certifications (e.g., licensed electrician).
Technical Skills: High proficiency in reading blueprints and solid knowledge of electrical systems and local compliance codes.4, 5]
Software Proficiency: Experience using construction estimation software, spreadsheet applications (Excel), and sometimes CAD or specialized engineering software
Analytical Abilities: Meticulous attention to detail and a solid understanding of commercial and construction economics.
