A Fire Watcher is responsible for monitoring work areas where hot work (such as welding, cutting, grinding, or brazing) is being performed to prevent fires and ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and property. The Fire Watcher must remain alert throughout the hot work activity and for the required monitoring period after completion.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor all hot work activities including welding, gas cutting, grinding, and brazing.
- Ensure a valid Hot Work Permit is available before work begins.
- Inspect the work area for combustible or flammable materials and ensure they are removed or protected.
- Keep appropriate fire extinguishers readily available and know how to operate them.
- Continuously observe the work area for sparks, smoke, or signs of fire.
- Immediately raise the alarm and initiate emergency procedures in case of fire.
- Stop work if unsafe conditions are observed.




- Maintain communication with the Safety Officer and work supervisor.
- Ensure fire exits and emergency access routes remain explicit.
- Conduct fire watch duties for the required period (typically 30–60 minutes or as per site requirements) after hot work is completed.
- Record inspections and observations in the fire watch log or permit as required.
- Follow company HSE policies and site safety regulations.
- Wear and maintain the required PPE at all times
