- Verify patient identity and test orders before procedure.
- Prepare sterile equipment for IV insertion and blood draw.
- Select appropriate vein using proper assessment techniques.
- Perform IV cannulation using correct aseptic method.
- Draw blood samples using proper tubes and order of draw.
- Label specimens accurately and send to lab promptly.
- Flush and secure IV line to maintain patency.
