cancer (0 -19 years) in India.

Department Overview
The Treatment Support Program (TSP) provides comprehensive dietary and
nutritional care to pediatric oncology patients. Dietitians and nutritionists
work as part of the holistic care team, creating individualized nutrition plans
based on patients’ medical needs, promoting good dietary health, and raising
awareness about the role of food in health and recovery.
Role Overview
The Dietitian is responsible for developing personalized diet plans for
pediatric oncology patients, promoting healthy eating habits, providing
counseling and nutritional assessments, and implementing nutrition -based
interventions for inpatients, outpatients, and critical care patients. The
Dietitian also coordinates education and awareness sessions, contributes to
food distribution, maintains nutrition records, and collaborates in training
and research activities.
Key Responsibilities
A. Nutrition and Dietary Support
- Conduct nutritional assessments and
design tailored meal plans.
- Administer the Dry Nutritional
Supplement Program and ensure proper documentation.
- Maintain a repository of nutritional
data and recipes.
B. Hygiene and Health Support
- Design and display hygiene posters in
hospital wards.
- Plan and implement Health and Hygiene
Kit programs.
- Coordinate with hospital doctors to
develop health education materials.
- Support hematological needs including
blood donation camp coordination.
C. Inpatient (IPD) Care
- Perform baseline nutrition assessments
for admitted children.
- Conduct daily rounds and provide
personalized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).
- Calculate dietary requirements (24 -hour
recall) and prepare nutrition charts.
- Counsel patients and caregivers on
nutrition and its role in treatment and recovery.
D. Outpatient (OPD) Care
- Perform nutrition assessments for OPD
patients.
- Plan diet strategies using 24 -hour or
7 -day recalls.
- Ensure regular follow -ups and provide
preventive nutrition care.
- Distribute nutritional supplements and
maintain related documentation.
E. ICU Care
- Conduct daily ICU rounds to assess and
manage critical nutrition needs.
- Coordinate with ICU teams for managing
patient MNT.
F. Food/Supplement Management
- Oversee Mid -Day Meal (MDM) distribution
and ensure quality, quantity, and hygiene.
- Coordinate with vendors for food
delivery and packaging.
- Modify recipes based on patient needs
and seasonality.
- Identify eligible patients for special
supplements and manage procurement and distribution with donor
coordination.
G. Education and Training
- Conduct group education sessions for
patients and caregivers thrice weekly.
- Organize monthly educational talks
during parent support group meetings.
- Train new CanKids staff, joiners, and
interns on hospital nutrition processes.
H. Team Collaboration and Administration
- Participate in monthly CanKids meetings
and prepare reports.
- Raise indents and coordinate with staff
for supplement distribution.
I. Research and Audits
- Maintain records of
baseline nutrition status and interventions.
- Analyze and present
quarterly nutrition data.
- Participate in
relevant nutrition -based research and intervention studies.
Other Extended Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by
the Reporting Manager.
Requirements
Required
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Post
Graduation in Dietetics, Nutrition, or relevant field
Experience:
2–3 years in
clinical or pediatric dietetics, preferably in hospital or NGO settings
Skills
& Competencies:
· Sound knowledge of nutrition science and diet planning
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Solid interpersonal and motivational abilities
· Ability to explain complex dietary information simply
· Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in patient care
· Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
· Experience working in care -based and multidisciplinary environments
