We are seeking an Assistant Manager – Group Underwriting (UW) to support insurance production and group underwriting initiatives, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and other underwriting-related projects. The role requires strong expertise in group insurance processes, system integration, and project management within tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Operations
- Underwrite assigned cases in line with the designated authority and organizational guidelines.
- Apply deep understanding of group insurance systems, including underwriting workflows, guidelines, and operational processes.
- Participate in system integration and development projects, ensuring effective collaboration and timely delivery.
- Conduct root cause analysis for system and process issues; recommend and implement corrective actions to enhance system performance and compliance.
- Monitor ongoing projects and UAT activities, providing structured feedback to ensure smooth functionality and stability.
- Prepare project documentation, including detailed plans, reports, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
- Assist in the assessment of group underwriting cases and continuously contribute to improving underwriting standards.
Team Supervision & Case Review
- Supervise and guide junior underwriters, ensuring accuracy and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
- Review and approve cases escalated by junior underwriters.
- Track and evaluate team performance, conducting monthly case reviews to minimize error rates.
- Manage case distribution and ensure completion within assigned timelines.
Query Resolution & Analysis
- Resolve zonal underwriting queries forwarded by the issuance team within defined timelines.
- Assist in analyzing underwriting data to identify emerging trends and patterns.
- Support in technical portfolio studies and contribute to risk philosophy reviews for continuous improvement.
Case Reinstatement & Risk Management
- Review high-net-worth reinstatement cases and re-underwrite cases referred by the claims department.
- Participate in risk mitigation initiatives, including contingency planning and business continuity programs.
- Identify and report process gaps while recommending process enhancements.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of insurance and underwriting principles.

- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Pharmacy, Medicine, Life Sciences, Microbiology, or Commerce.
- 4–5 years of relevant industry experience.
Desired:
- ALMI / III-Associate (all 6 papers).
- Diploma or MBA in Insurance.
- At least 3 years of domain-specific experience.
