Role & responsibilities
1. Strategic & Leadership
- Lead the facade execution function across the organization's high-rise project portfolio, from planning through handover.
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of facade engineers, site supervisors, and QA/QC personnel.
- Represent the organization in senior-level interactions with facade consultants, fabricators, testing agencies, and clients.
- Provide inputs on facade system selection (curtain wall, unitized/stick systems, ACP, stone, glazing) during design and tendering stages, balancing aesthetics, performance, and cost.
2. Facade Execution & Site Management
- Plan and drive end-to-end execution of facade works for high-rise towers, including sequencing, logistics, and manpower planning for working at height.
- Ensure facade installation (curtain wall, structural glazing, cladding, glazing systems) is executed as per approved shop drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate facade activities with structural, MEP, and other execution teams to avoid clashes and rework.
- Monitor progress against the master execution schedule; proactively resolve bottlenecks impacting tower handover timelines.
- Oversee scaffolding, gondola, and access system planning for safe and efficient high-rise facade installation.
3. Vendor & Contractor Management
- Identify, evaluate, and appoint facade contractors, fabricators, glazing/cladding vendors, and testing agencies.
- Negotiate scope, rates, and timelines with facade vendors; monitor performance against contractual milestones and SLAs.
- Review and approve vendor shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation methodology statements.
- Conduct factory inspections and material quality audits at fabrication yards prior to site delivery.
4. Quality, Testing & Performance
- Ensure facade mock-ups (visual and performance) are executed and approved prior to mass production/installation.
- Oversee performance testing of facade systems air/water infiltration, structural glazing, wind load,
seismic movement as per AAMA/ASTM/BIS standards.
- Drive quality control checks at every stage: fabrication, delivery, installation, and sealant application.
- Ensure facade systems meet fire safety, thermal performance, and acoustic requirements applicable to high-rise structures.
- Investigate and resolve post-installation issues such as water leakage, glass breakage, or sealant failure.
5. Safety Management
- Enforce strict safety protocols for height-work, including use of safety harnesses, gondolas, scaffolding, and fall-protection systems.
- Conduct periodic safety audits of facade installation crews and ensure compliance with statutory safety norms for high-rise construction.
- Drive a zero-harm culture across all facade execution teams and sub-contractors.
6. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Provide facade execution cost estimates and inputs for project budgeting and cash flow planning.
- Monitor facade-related costs, material wastage, and rework; implement value engineering measures without compromising performance or aesthetics.
- Review and certify vendor bills/RA bills for facade works in coordination with the commercial/billing team.
7. Statutory Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure facade designs and installations comply with local building codes, fire safety norms, and structural safety regulations for high-rise buildings.
- Maintain documentation of approved drawings, test certificates, inspection reports, and as-built records.
- Support the project team in obtaining occupancy/completion certificates related to facade compliance.
8. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated with emerging facade technologies, materials, and systems (double-skin facades, unitized systems, high-performance glazing, sustainable facade solutions).
- Drive adoption of energy-efficient and green-building-compliant facade solutions (LEED/IGBC/GRIHA).
- Benchmark facade execution practices against industry best practices for high-rise developments.
Educational Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or Diploma in Civil Engineering, from a recognized institute.
- Additional certification/specialization in Facade Engineering or Project Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 20 years of overall experience, with substantial (15+ years) hands-on experience in execution of facade works specifically for high-rise towers.
- Proven track record of having executed curtain wall, structural glazing, ACP/stone cladding, and window systems on large-scale high-rise residential/commercial towers.
- Demonstrated experience managing facade execution across multiple simultaneous high-rise projects.
- Prior experience in a GM/Head of Facade/Facade Execution Director capacity is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep technical knowledge of facade systems — unitized/stick curtain wall, structural glazing, ACP cladding, stone cladding, UPVC/aluminium fenestration.
- Strong understanding of facade testing standards (AAMA, ASTM, BIS) and high-rise building codes.
- Proficiency in reviewing shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation methodology statements.
- Sound knowledge of height-work safety systems — scaffolding, gondolas, fall-protection, rigging.
- Excellent vendor/contractor management and negotiation skills.
- Strong site execution orientation with the ability to resolve on-ground technical challenges.
- Strong leadership, team management, and cross-functional coordination capabilities.
Positive communication, documentation, and reporting skills.
