Assistant Professor – Physiology

Job Summary

Sri Muthukumaran Medical College & Research Institute is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor – Physiology. We are looking for a dedicated and academically driven medical skilled who is passionate about teaching, research, and contributing to excellence in medical education. The selected candidate will play a key role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research activities, and departmental academic development in accordance with NMC guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality teaching to MBBS students through lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and demonstrations.
- Facilitate competency-based medical education (CBME) as per NMC regulations.
- Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in academic and research activities.
- Participate in curriculum planning, assessment, examinations, and evaluation processes.
- Guide students in research projects, seminars, journal clubs, and scientific presentations.
- Conduct and publish quality research in indexed national and international journals.
- Assist in departmental administration, academic planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate academic records, attendance, and documentation.
- Participate actively in CME programs, faculty development programs (FDPs), workshops, and conferences.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary departments to promote integrated teaching and research.




- Perform duties assigned by the Head of the Department and institution from time to time.

Eligibility

- MD in Physiology from a recognized medical institution or Ph.D. in Physiology from a recognized university (as per applicable NMC norms for non-medical faculty).
- Must meet the eligibility criteria prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / State Medical Council is required for medical candidates (MD).
- Robust teaching, research, and communication skills.
- Research publications and prior teaching experience in a medical college will be an added advantage.

- Sound knowledge of human physiology and competency-based medical education.
- Excellent presentation and classroom management skills.
- Ability to mentor students and promote academic excellence.
- Good research aptitude and publication record.
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital teaching platforms.
