Job Summary

The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing, editing, and proofreading medical reports dictated by physicians and other healthcare professionals. The role ensures that patient records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with hospital policies, quality standards, and confidentiality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Transcribe medical dictations, including patient histories, physical examinations, discharge summaries, operative notes, consultation reports, and diagnostic reports.
- Review and edit transcribed documents for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology.
- Verify patient demographics and clinical information before finalizing reports.
- Ensure timely completion of transcription assignments while maintaining high accuracy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with applicable privacy and hospital policies.
- Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify unclear dictations when required.
- Maintain organized electronic records and ensure proper documentation within the Hospital Information System (HIS) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Follow departmental quality standards and productivity targets.
- Stay updated with current medical terminology, abbreviations,



and transcription practices.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.

Qualifications

- Diploma/Bachelor's degree in Medical Transcription, Life Sciences, Healthcare, or a related field.
- Certification in Medical Transcription is preferred.
- Good knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.

Experience

- 1–3 years of experience as a Medical Transcriptionist in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Freshers with relevant training may also be considered.

- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proficiency in medical terminology.
- Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and transcription software.
