ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Software Developer DevOps (India) is a cross-portfolio engineering role on the PMT operational team's Hyderabad hub. These three engineers partner with the India SREs, US-based Software Developers (DevOps), and Domain Architects to build and run the automation, CI/CD, platform tooling, and developer ergonomics that let other delivery teams stay heads-down on delivery.
This role is the India-based counterpart to the US Software Developer DevOps (JD11). While the US engineers anchor the on-call rotation and US-hours coverage, the India engineers extend DevOps capability into the IST shift - building the same platform, owning the same pipelines, and operating the same tooling. The goal is a single, continuous DevOps practice that doesn't go dark when one time zone goes offline.
This is a hands-on engineering role, not an architecture role. Architectural direction across the portfolio is owned by the Domain Architects (US + India).
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and developer self-service tooling across the PMT portfolio.
- Partner with India SREs and US DevOps engineers on production deployment, monitoring, rollback, and vulnerability remediation.
- Develop platform capabilities that delivery teams consume paved-path templates, internal libraries, standard runbooks, deployment dashboards.
- Triage and fix DevOps incidents during IST shift - pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, secrets management, environment provisioning.
- Build, deploy, and maintain AI agents as first-class platform components - agent-driven CI/CD workflows, automated runbook execution, vulnerability triage automation,
and developer self-service tooling powered by AI.
- Mentor SREs on DevOps practices through code review, pairing, and runbook documentation.
- Identify and eliminate toil for delivery teams; measure adoption and impact of platform tooling.
- Partner with Domain Architects on technology selection for recent tooling and platform investments.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- 4-6 years of software engineering experience with significant DevOps / platform engineering exposure.
- Production experience building CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Strong cloud infrastructure skills (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - IAM, networking, observability, cost.
- Software development depth in at least one of: Python, Go, Java, TypeScript/Node.js.
- Comfortable working across a broad application portfolio with varying technologies; able to learn new stacks quickly.
- Strong written communication for documentation, runbooks, and partner-team enablement.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) to build, operate, and improve engineering workflows - including writing and reviewing code, building AI agents as first-class platform components, and accelerating automation development across the team.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- AI & agent tooling:
Proficient in AI coding/automation assistants (Claude, Copilot, or equivalent). Able to design, build, and deploy AI agents as first-class platform components - agent-driven CI/CD workflows, automated runbook execution, vulnerability triage automation, and developer self-service tooling powered by AI.
- Application development proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js and Java; experience with NestJS for backend service development. Able to build, extend, and debug application code across the portfolio, not just pipeline and infrastructure layers.
- Cloud platform depth: AWS required, Azure familiarity a plus. Hands-on with core services - compute, IAM, networking, managed databases, serverless, and cost governance.
- CI/CD pipeline development (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
- Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Observability and code instrumentation: Splunk and Grafana for operational dashboards and alerting; Open Telemetry for application instrumentation; able to contribute to end-to-end observability design.
- Code management practices: Git branching strategies, PR review workflows, release tagging, and code quality gates.
- Scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
- Secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or similar).
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Prior experience building internal developer platforms or paved-path tooling at scale.
- Experience working alongside SRE teams on production reliability and incident response.
- Familiarity with SaaS platform integration.
