Position Summary

The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all medical equipment within the hospital is safe, functional, calibrated, compliant, and available for uninterrupted patient care. The role includes installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, equipment planning, statutory compliance, documentation, and user training.

The engineer plays a critical role in maximizing equipment uptime while ensuring patient safety and NABH compliance.

Key ResponsibilitiesMedical Equipment Management

- Maintain complete inventory of all biomedical equipment.
- Ensure proper installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Verify acceptance testing before equipment is handed over to departments.
- Tag and identify every equipment with unique asset numbers.

Preventive Maintenance (PM)

- Prepare annual preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure 100% completion of preventive maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations.
- Maintain PM records and service reports.
- Monitor equipment performance trends.

Breakdown Maintenance

- Attend breakdown calls immediately.
- Troubleshoot equipment whenever possible.
- Coordinate with vendors for major repairs.
- Minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain equipment history cards.

Calibration

Coordinate periodic calibration of:

- Multipara monitors
- Defibrillators
- Syringe pumps
- Infusion pumps
- Ventilators
- OT equipment
- Laboratory equipment
- ICU monitoring devices
- Anaesthesia workstations

Maintain valid calibration certificates.

Vendor Management

- Coordinate AMC/CMC contracts.
- Evaluate vendor performance.
- Track service response times.
- Verify invoices before processing.
- Ensure warranty obligations are fulfilled.





Equipment Procurement Support

Assist management in:

- Technical evaluation
- Vendor comparison
- Specification preparation
- Demonstrations
- Installation planning
- Acceptance testing

Documentation

Maintain:

- Equipment master list
- Asset register
- Warranty records
- AMC/CMC database
- Breakdown register
- Calibration records
- Preventive maintenance records
- Service reports
- User manuals
- Spare inventory

User Training

Train users on:

- Safe operation
- Daily checks
- Basic troubleshooting
- Cleaning protocols
- Preventive handling
- Reporting breakdowns

NABH Compliance

Ensure compliance with NABH standards regarding:

- Preventive maintenance
- Calibration
- Equipment safety
- Documentation
- Breakdown records
- Risk assessment
- Electrical safety

Patient Safety

Ensure:

- No unsafe equipment remains in use.
- Defective equipment is tagged immediately.
- Electrical leakage checks are performed.
- Life-support equipment is always functional.

Emergency Responsibilities

Provide immediate support during:

- OT emergencies
- ICU equipment failures
- Ventilator issues
- Code Blue situations
- Emergency equipment replacement

Inventory Management

Maintain stock of:

- Common spare parts
- Fuses
- Batteries
- Sensors
- ECG cables
- SPO₂ probes
- Temperature probes
- Power cords
- Accessories

Coordination

Work closely with:

- ICU
- OT
- Cath Lab
- Radiology
- Laboratory
- Nursing
- Purchase
- Stores
- Administration
- IT Department
- External vendors

Qualifications





- B.E./B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering
- Diploma in Biomedical Engineering (with relevant experience may be considered)

Experience

- 2–5 years in a multispeciality hospital preferred.
- Freshers with strong technical skills may be considered as Biomedical Engineer Trainees.

Hopewell Hospital-Specific Expectation

As Hopewell Hospital is a current 70-bed Cardiac & Surgical Centre of Excellence, the Biomedical Engineer is expected to actively participate in the pre-opening phase, including equipment planning, installation, commissioning, inventory creation, acceptance testing, staff training, and readiness checks. The engineer will work closely with consultants, vendors, architects, and hospital leadership to ensure every medical device is fully operational before inauguration and supports NABH accreditation from day one.

Pay: ₹10,967.00 - ₹51,207.60 per month
