About the Role

SDBI (School of Data Science & Business Intelligence) is seeking a Visiting Faculty member to teach Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS): Computing Science in Ancient India to undergraduate students enrolled in the B.Sc. Data Science program.

This course explores the rich intellectual traditions of ancient India and their relevance to contemporary computing, mathematics, logic, linguistics, algorithms, cryptography, and knowledge representation. The objective is to help students appreciate the historical foundations of computational thinking while drawing meaningful connections between traditional knowledge systems and contemporary computer science.

The ideal candidate should possess both industry experience and a strong interest in the history of science, computational thinking, mathematics, or technology. The teaching approach should emphasize conceptual understanding, interdisciplinary learning, case studies, and practical connections with modern computing and data science.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Delivery

- Deliver 60 hours of engaging classroom instruction across the semester.
- Explain key concepts in Indian Knowledge Systems related to mathematics, logic, linguistics, astronomy, and computation.
- Connect ancient Indian scientific contributions with modern computing principles.
- Use real-world examples, case studies, demonstrations, and discussions.




- Encourage critical thinking and comparative analysis between traditional and modern knowledge systems.

Student Learning & Mentorship

- Guide students through assignments, presentations, and research-based activities.
- Promote interdisciplinary exploration of technology, history, and scientific thought.
- Mentor students in understanding the evolution of computational concepts across civilizations.
- Encourage curiosity, discussion, and independent learning.

Assessment & Academic Support

- Design assignments, quizzes, and project-based learning activities.
- Conduct evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Support internal assessment processes and academic documentation.

Teaching Commitment

- Total Course Duration: 30 Hours
- Weekly Teaching Load: Approximately 4–6 Hours
- Mode: On-campus teaching in Pune (Abasaheb Garware College)

Faculty may also be required to prepare assignments, presentations, case studies, and internal assessments.

Compensation

Compensation will be discussed based on qualifications, experience, subject expertise, and engagement requirements.
