Project Accountant – Film / Media Production (India)

Role Purpose

Manage end-to-end finances of a film project—from pre-production budgeting to final cost reports—while ensuring compliance with Indian tax laws and producer/studio requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Budgeting & Cost Control

Prepare and manage film budgets (pre-production, production, post-production)

Track daily shoot expenses vs approved budget

Monitor cost overruns and report deviations to Producer / Line Producer

Maintain cost heads (artists, technicians, equipment, locations, post-production, marketing)

2. Payments & Payroll

Handle payments to:

Actors & supporting artists

Technicians & crew

Vendors (camera, lights, sets, locations, hotels, travel)

Manage daily cash flow on shoot locations

Process weekly/monthly payroll for crew

Handle per-day wages, advances & settlements

3. Taxation & Compliance (India-Specific)

TDS deductions under:

194J – Artists, directors, music composers

194C – Technicians, contractors

GST compliance:

Input GST tracking

Vendor GST invoices

Coordinate with CA for returns & filings

Maintain audit-ready records for investors/studios

4. Cash & Petty Cash Management





Manage imprest / petty cash during shoot

Daily expense vouchers & approvals

Location-wise expense tracking

Cash reconciliation at end of shoot schedule

5. Reporting & Documentation

Daily / weekly cost reports

Cost-to-complete reports

Final Project Cost Statement

Maintain contracts, invoices, work orders, payment proofs

6. Stakeholder Coordination

Work closely with:

Producer / Executive Producer

Line Producer / Production Manager

Studio / Financier

Chartered Accountant

Support studio audits and completion bond requirements (if applicable)

Skills Required

Solid knowledge of film budgeting structure

Tally / Excel (advanced) / production accounting software

Understanding of Indian taxation for media industry

High accuracy + ability to work under tight shoot schedules

Trust handling (confidential financial data)

Typical Qualifications

B.Com / M.Com / CA-Inter / MBA (Finance)

3–10 years' experience in:

Film production

OTT series

Advertising / Media projects

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
