Job Summary

The OT Scrub Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons and the surgical team during operative procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical instruments and supplies, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process. The role requires a high level of clinical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to infection prevention and patient care standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare the Operation Theatre (OT) for scheduled surgical procedures.
- Sterilize, arrange, and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensure strict adherence to aseptic and infection control protocols.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures.
- Perform surgical instrument, sponge, and needle counts before, during, and after surgery according to hospital protocols.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to facilitate smooth and efficient procedures.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, consent, and required documentation before surgery.
- Assist in patient positioning while ensuring safety and preventing pressure injuries.
- Monitor the sterile field throughout the procedure and take corrective action if sterility is compromised.
- Coordinate with anesthesiologists, circulating nurses, surgeons, and OT technicians for seamless surgical workflow.
- Handle and label specimens correctly for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, and dispatch of instruments for sterilization after procedures.




- Report equipment malfunctions or shortages promptly to the OT In-charge.
- Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and OT documentation.
- Participate in emergency surgeries and be available for on-call duties as required.
- Comply with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and accreditation requirements (NABH/NABL, where applicable).

Qualifications

- Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or B.Sc. Nursing.
- Valid Nursing Council registration.
- Certification or training in Operation Theatre Nursing is preferred.

Experience

- 1–3 years of experience as an OT Scrub Nurse in a multispecialty hospital or surgical center.
- Experience in specialties such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, or Laparoscopic Surgery is an advantage.

- Ability to maintain accuracy during instrument and sponge counts.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in high-pressure situations.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of patient safety protocols and surgical standards.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
