Core Job Description

1. Conduct Eye Examinations

- Perform routine and comprehensive eye tests
- Assess vision clarity and eye coordination
- Detect refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism

2. Prescribe Vision Correction

- Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Recommend lens types (bifocals, progressive lenses, etc.)

3. Diagnose Eye Conditions

- Identify common eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration
- Recognize signs of systemic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) through eye exams

4. Provide Treatment and Management

- Prescribe medications for certain eye conditions (where legally permitted)
- Manage ongoing eye health and vision issues
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists for surgery or advanced care

5. Patient Education

- Advise on proper eye care and hygiene




- Recommend lifestyle adjustments to maintain eye health

6. Use of Equipment

- Operate diagnostic tools like phoropters, retinoscopes, and slit lamps

7. Record Keeping & Administration

- Maintain patient records and histories
- Handle basic administrative duties in clinics or optical centers
