Job Description: A Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Mechanical Engineering for a Sponge Iron Division (SID) oversees all mechanical maintenance, operations, and equipment reliability for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) kilns. This is a senior techno-commercial role requiring 10-15+ years of experience in integrated steel or metallurgical plants. [1, 2, 3, 4] Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Reliability

- Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance: Lead scheduled shutdowns and emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime across the SID.
- Equipment Overhaul: Manage the maintenance of critical rotating and heavy equipment, including rotary kilns, cooler tubes, ID/FD fans, gearboxes, conveyors, and raw material handling systems.
- Condition Monitoring: Implement predictive maintenance practices to assess equipment health and extend component life. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Plant Operations & Project Management

- Production Support: Ensure mechanical operations and utilities continuously align with daily sponge iron production targets and quality standards.
- Capex Execution: Plan and execute mechanical projects, including modifying, expanding,



or retrofitting plant machinery.
- Vendor Management: Negotiate with equipment suppliers, manage procurement of spares, and coordinate service contracts. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Safety & Compliance

- HSE Protocols: Enforce strict workplace safety standards, environmental regulations, and operational SOPs across the shop floor.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 12 to 18 years of relevant experience in a Sponge Iron Division (SID), steel, ferro, or heavy process industry.
