Job Description: A General Manager (GM) of Power Plant Operations is a senior-level executive tasked with directing the strategic and daily operations of a power generation facility. They are responsible for optimizing power output , ensuring regulatory compliance, managing budgets , and leading safety and maintenance teams . [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Core Responsibilities

- Operational Management: Directs day-to-day electricity generation, overseeing processes like Boilers, Turbines, and Water Treatment Plants. In industrial regions—like the Captive Power Plants (CPPs) common in local steel sectors—they ensure an uninterrupted power supply to manufacturing units . [1, 2]
- Budgeting & Cost Control: Prepares the operational and maintenance budgets, managing site expenditures and strictly optimizing fuel or coal consumption. [1, 2]
- Maintenance & Reliability: Spearheads preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to maximize Plant Load Factor (PLF) and asset lifespan . [1]




- Safety & Compliance: Enforces stringent environmental and safety protocols to protect workers, machinery, and property, while ensuring all regulatory standards are met. [1, 2]

Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech). [1, 2]
- Experience: Typically 20 to 25 years of progressive experience in power generation, heavily favoring background in thermal, biomass, or captive power plants attached to heavy industries. [1, 2, 3, 4]
