One Subsurface internship programme – Reservoir Engineering

One Subsurface is an early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse professional engineers who are high performers, have broad discipline experience, a transferable skills set and solving the most complex problems of today and of the future.

As a Reservoir engineer (RE) intern, you will be part of the Subsurface organization’s Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) arm and our vision is to become an industry-leading hydrocarbons business and the engine room of our integrated energy company; we will do this by always putting safety first, reducing carbon emissions, improving efficiency, integrating across the value chain, and flexibly deploying talent to solve the biggest issues.



At the heart of Subsurface lies our purpose to be a digitally enabled and agile team that can apply and nurture its subsurface skills to find, develop and manage a portfolio of high-value, carbon-efficient resources.

As a Reservoir engineer intern, you’ll focus on integrating geoscience, rock, fluid, pressure, facilities and wells engineering data to understand hydrocarbon reservoir and/or storage container performance, plan new developments and/or optimize the economic recovery of hydrocarbons and/or storage solutions. Depending on your BP location and role, you will gain broad capability, primarily through job experiences in:

- Well and/or area Performance: for example, participation in the reservoir and well reviews; involvement in reservoir performance analysis, reservoir fluid characterization, well planning, or flood management

- Reservoir and/or storage management: for example, in setting depletion strategy, generating field development options, or reserves estimation

- Reservoir and/or storage simulation: for example, in history matching or reservoir model updates, developing data analytics solutions

Role and responsibilities

The precise nature of your internship role and project will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business, but your responsibilities include:

- Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions

- Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company

- Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence

- Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety

During your internship you’ll get continuous feedback and guidance on how to plan and deliver your project, along with advice on what to look for and who to talk to. You’ll also be encouraged, individually and together with your intern peer group to find out as much as possible about other teams, disciplines and operations to broaden your understanding of the bp business. This is an assessed internship and may be a potential talent pipeline into graduate opportunities the following year

Requirements

- Be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering, Applied Petroleum disciplines

- Maintain a CGPA of 7 & above

- Should be class of 2028 and be eligible for a 10-week internship between May to July 2027

a passion to excel and deliver results

- In addition, demonstrable data science skills would be advantageous for any geoscience candidate applying for a role in bp. Specifically, proficiency in using statistical methods to interrogate large datasets for geological insight, and in the application of using scripting languages such as Python and R, and development environments such as Jupyter and Rstudio.

You will be based in our Pune office.
