Underwriting & Risk Assessment

- - Underwrite complex and high sum insured retail health insurance proposals with thorough risk assessment and appropriate decision?making.

- - Review and analyze proposal forms, portability forms, declarations, past policy documents, and underwriting histories to identify material disclosures and risk indicators.

- - Review and interpret medical documents, investigation reports, discharge summaries, prescriptions, and specialist opinions, ensuring accurate utilization of medical information in underwriting decisions.

- - Evaluate pre?policy medical examination reports and correlate findings with disclosed medical history.

- - Approve, decline, load, or apply exclusions in line with underwriting philosophy and company risk appetite.

- - Ensure adherence to IRDAI regulations, company underwriting guidelines, product features, and internal SOPs.

Team Management & Leadership

- - Lead, mentor, and manage a team of medical underwriters, ensuring productivity, quality, and compliance.

- - Allocate work, monitor daily throughput, and ensure optimal utilization of team capacity.

- - Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and quality audits to improve underwriting outcomes.

- - Drive a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and underwriting excellence.

Process,



MIS & Governance

- - Ensure daily productivity MIS, quality metrics, dashboards, and process reports are published accurately and on time.

- - Review underwriting deviations, exceptions, and referral trends, and take corrective actions.

- - Partner with operations, sales, and product teams to improve underwriting processes and turnaround time (TAT).

- - Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews related to underwriting.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

- - Resolve complex customer, sales, broker, and partner queries or grievances related to underwriting decisions.

- - Act as a subject matter expert for escalations involving medical or underwriting judgment.

- - Collaborate with Sales, Claims, Actuarial, Product, and Legal teams for business initiatives and policy interpretation.

Training & Capability Building

- - Conduct structured training sessions for team members on medical knowledge, underwriting concepts, disease biology, and regulatory updates.

- - Develop and update training material, SOP interpretations, and underwriting best practices.

- - Stay updated on emerging medical trends, treatment protocols, and insurance market developments and cascade learning to the team.
