A medicinal chemist in the pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry designs, synthesizes, and optimizes chemical compounds to create recent, effective drugs. Responsibilities include developing synthetic drugs, analyzing structure-activity relationships (SAR), and testing how these molecules interact with biological targets to treat disease. Drug Design & Synthesis: Utilize synthetic organic chemistry techniques to design and synthesize novel compounds or modify existing ones. [1, 2]
Optimization: Evaluate how chemical structures interact with the body, conducting lead optimization to enhance a drug's potency, selectivity, and safety. [1, 2]
Analytical Testing: Run assays and utilize advanced analytical equipment (e.g., LC-MS, HPLC, NMR) to determine purity, molecular structure, and biological activity. [1, 2]
Collaboration:
Partner with pharmacologists, toxicologists, and biologists to translate laboratory discoveries into viable clinical therapies. [1, 2]
Data Management & Compliance: Document research findings, monitor drug effectiveness, and adhere to strict regulatory guidelines and Positive Laboratory Practices .
Typical Qualifications
Education: A Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Pharmaceutical Sciences is usually required.
Experience: Hands-on laboratory experience, specifically with synthetic chemistry and drug development.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
