Key Responsibilities
Cable Design & Engineering
Design LT power, control, and instrumentation cables up to 1.1 kV.
Select appropriate conductor (Cu/Al), insulation, sheath, armouring, and shielding based on application.
Prepare cable construction drawings and technical datasheets.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as:
IS 7098 (Part 1)
IEC 60502-1
Customer specifications
Perform electrical and mechanical design calculations:
Current carrying capacity
Voltage drops
Short circuit withstands
Insulation thickness and derating factors
Costing & Estimation
Prepare detailed cost estimates for LT cable enquiries and tenders.
Work out Bill of Materials (BOM) including:
Copper/Aluminium conductor cost
PVC/XLPE insulation
Armouring materials (GI wire/strip)
Manufacturing conversion costs
Maintain and update costing sheets based on:
Raw material price fluctuations (copper, aluminium, polymer)
Exchange rate variations (if applicable)
Provide competitive pricing strategy while ensuring margin targets.
Tender & Enquiry Support
Review technical specifications in RFQs (Request for Quotation).
Coordinate with sales and marketing teams for technical clarifications.
Suggest cost-effective design alternatives without compromising standards.
Support bid submission with technical compliance documents.
Coordination with Production & Purchase
Coordinate with production for manufacturability of designed cables.
Work with purchase team for latest raw material rates.
Support in standardisation of cable designs for production efficiency.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure designs meet BIS/IEC/ISO standards.
Assist in customer approvals and technical audits.
Support troubleshooting of production or field issues related to design.
Documentation & ERP
Maintain design records, costing sheets, and revision history.
Update ERP system with BOM and product configurations.
Prepare technical submittals and datasheets.
