A Retail Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescription and over-the-counter medications, ensuring secure and effective drug use, and providing excellent customer service in a community pharmacy setting. The pharmacist plays a key role in patient education, medication management, and overall store operations.
Key Responsibilities
Dispense prescription medications accurately in accordance with physician orders
Review prescriptions for correctness, dosage, interactions, and contraindications
Counsel customers on proper medication use, side effects, and precautions
Recommend appropriate over-the-counter medications and health products
Maintain patient medication records and confidentiality
Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, regulations, and store policies
Supervise and train pharmacy technicians and assistants
Manage inventory, ordering, storage, and expiry of medications
Handle insurance claims and prescription billing when required
Provide basic health services such as blood pressure checks, vaccinations, or screenings (if authorized)
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the pharmacy area
Qualifications
Bachelors or Diploma of Pharmacy (B.Pharm / PharmD)
Valid pharmacist license/registration
Experience in retail or community pharmacy preferred
