Job Summary
Oracle DBA
We are seeking an experienced Oracle DBA to manage and optimize Oracle databases that support our Appian process automation platform. The ideal candidate will ensure high availability, performance, security, and compliance of Appian’s database tier while collaborating closely with Appian developers, infrastructure, and support teams.

Key responsibilities
• Install, configure, upgrade and patch Oracle database environments that support Appian (development, test, staging, production).
• Provision and maintain database instances, schemas, users, roles, and security for Appian applications.
• Perform database performance tuning and optimization: SQL tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, statistics management, and memory/parameter tuning.
• Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, diagrams, and documentation for Appian database operations and recovery procedures.

Required qualifications and skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Database administration experience (Oracle 12c/18c/19c/21c as applicable).
• Solid performance tuning skills: SQL execution plans, AWR/ASH reports, Statspack, Oracle Enterprise Manager.
• Experience with Oracle RAC and ASM is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in writing and debugging SQL and PL/SQL.




• Knowledge of JVM application servers and how Appian connects to databases (JDBC) and connection pool tuning.
• Familiarity with Appian architecture and artifact storage requirements (preferred). If not Appian-experienced, demonstrated ability to partner with application teams and quickly ramp up.
• Experience with automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar).
• Experience with Linux administration is an advantage.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
1. Lead a team of developers in designing, developing, and maintaining oracle pl/sql applications
2. Collaborate with cross functional teams to gather and understand business requirements
3. Develop efficient database queries, stored procedures, and functions in oracle pl/sql
4. Ensure the performance, integrity, and security of databases
5. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in oracle pl/sql applications
6. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
7. Stay updated with oracle pl/sql best practices and recommend improvements

Skill Requirements
• Proficiency in oracle pl/sql programming
• Solid understanding of database design and implementation
• Experience in performance tuning and optimization of oracle pl/sql code
• Knowledge of pl/sql collections, triggers, and packages
• Ability to work effectively in a team and lead technical discussions
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Other Requirements
• Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Database SQL Certified Expert, or any relevant Oracle certifications are a plus
