Job Description –OT Security Engineer
Role Overview
The OT Security Engineer – Network Segmentation is responsible for the implementation and operational management of OT network security controls, including firewalls, segmentation, and secure communication enforcement across Volvo Cars manufacturing and R&D; environments. The role focuses on day to day execution, support, and controlled change aligned with IEC 62443, the Purdue Model, and Volvo Cars OT security standards.

Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities (Overall Role)
• Implement and maintain risk based OT network segmentation across production environments.
• Enforce IT/OT separation, production cell isolation, and controlled north south / east west traffic flows.
• Translate security architecture and policies into firewall rules, VLANs, and security zones.
• Support compliance with IEC 62443 3 3, NIST 800, and Volvo Cars internal OT security controls.

Responsibilities (Design & Authority)
• Design OT segmentation strategy aligned to Purdue levels (L0–L5).
• Define zone to zone and conduit communication models based on risk and criticality.
• Design firewall architectures, rule base standards, and segmentation patterns.
• Perform security risk analysis for segmentation exceptions and legacy constraints.
• Lead design workshops with Volvo Cars OT architects and plant stakeholders.
• Act as escalation authority for complex production-impacting segmentation issues.

Responsibilities (Build & Operate)




• Configure and manage OT firewall rule sets based on approved zone to zone communication matrices.
• Implement VLANs, security zones, and access policies on OT firewalls and industrial switches.
• Perform connectivity validation and traffic verification post segmentation.
• Provide hyper care support.

Skills & Experience
• Strong experience in OT network segmentation in manufacturing environments.
• Hands on with industrial firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco IE, etc.).
• Solid understanding of Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture.
• Working knowledge of IEC 62443 zone & conduit concepts.
• Experience working with plant engineering and OT operations teams.
• Familiarity with automotive or discrete manufacturing environments (preferred).
