If you know why a sofa still feels right after three years, we want to talk to you. Dimensions is a bespoke luxury furniture house — our own design studio in Delhi, our own showroom on MG Road, and our own factory at IMT Manesar with about 120 people on the floor. Nothing is bought in and marked up.
Every piece is drawn here and built here, to the customer's size, fabric and finish. We are looking for someone to run our upholstery section. THE JOB Most of what we upholster is one-off or modified — a sofa at a size that does not exist in any catalogue, in a fabric the customer chose last week, to a stitch detail our studio drew last month.
So this is not a repeating line. It is judgement, piece by piece, at a finish standard where the customer looks at the seam before they sit down.
You run the section: the people, the plan, the fabric and the finish. You report to the Plant Head.
WHAT YOU'LL DO Before the first staple
- Check the frame — squareness, joints, no twist. A weak frame upholstered is a piece built to come back
- Confirm the spec: fabric or leather, foam grade and density, suspension, stitch detail, piping, buttoning, legs
- Confirm the customer's approved swatch and any customisation The craft
- Webbing and suspension at the right tension and spacing — this decides how the piece feels in year three
- Foam to the specified grade, cut, layered and contoured; wrapping even, no thin corners
- Stitching: straight seams, even piping and welting, channel and tufting, buttoning aligned
- Final finish: tight, no puckering, clean corners, disciplined staple lines, legs on square The fabric — where the money is
- Make the cutting plan and own the yield. On a ₹4,000-a-metre fabric, a careless plan wastes more in a week than a helper earns in a month
- Pattern direction, pile direction and matching across arms, back and cushions
- One piece, one batch — manage roll shade variation
- Issue fabric against the job card and account for offcuts The people
- Run the karigars day to day: output, discipline, attendance
- Train helpers into skilled hands. Upholstery skill is scarce and expensive to buy — growing it is how we stop losing people
- Build a second line so the section runs when you are away Everything around it
- Coordinate with carpentry on frames, polish on legs and exposed wood, QC on standards, dispatch on packing
- Work with the design studio on prototypes — tell them honestly what a detail costs in time and fabric before it is frozen
- Handle re-upholstery and repair jobs coming back from customers WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • 5–10 years in furniture upholstery, with at least 2 as a supervisor, captain or master
- Hands-on across sofas, chairs, dining seating, beds and headboards
- Real knowledge of foam grades, webbing and spring suspension, and how different fabrics and leathers behave
- Able to cut a fabric plan and control wastage — we will ask you how you would lay out a specific piece
- Able to read an upholstery spec and a drawing
- Able to handle karigars and get output without losing them
- Fluent Hindi
- Living within reach of IMT Manesar, or willing to relocate A real advantage: experience in high-end, made-to-order or export upholstery, where every order is different and the finish is unforgiving. BE CLEAR-EYED ABOUT THIS Six-day week, on-site at Manesar, and it is a floor job. Our people churn more than we would like and part of your job is to change that in your section — by training helpers up rather than replacing them.
