The Role:

Teaching & Learning

- Deliver engaging and inspiring Dance lessons that promote creativity, confidence, technical excellence, and artistic expression.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and international best practices.
- Teach a broad range of Western dance styles including Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Commercial, Lyrical, and Creative Movement, appropriate to students' age and ability.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of learners.
- Develop students' technique, flexibility, coordination, musicality, rhythm, performance quality, and stage presence.
- Encourage creativity through choreography, improvisation, and collaborative performance.
- Integrate dance appreciation, history, terminology, anatomy, and safe dance practices into teaching where appropriate.
- Promote reflective learning, resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Curriculum Planning & Assessment

- Plan and deliver a progressive dance curriculum that develops technical, creative, and performance skills.
- Design meaningful assessments using practical demonstrations, choreography, performances, and reflective evaluation.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress through formative and summative assessment.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate assessment records and contribute to academic reporting.

Student Development & Pastoral Care

- Build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students.
- Promote confidence, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and personal growth through dance.
- Encourage students to develop creativity, leadership, collaboration, and self-expression.
- Support students' emotional, social, and physical wellbeing.
- Identify and nurture talented performers while supporting students requiring additional guidance.

Performances & Co-Curricular Contribution

- Lead school dance clubs, enrichment programmes, and performance groups.
- Choreograph and direct performances for assemblies,



productions, concerts, graduation ceremonies, cultural celebrations, competitions, and community events.
- Prepare students for inter-school, national, and international dance festivals and competitions.
- Collaborate with the Music, Drama, and Performing Arts departments to deliver interdisciplinary productions.
- Promote dance as an integral part of the school's creative and co-curricular programme.

Dance Studio Management & Health & Safety

- Maintain a safe, organised, and inspiring dance studio environment.
- Ensure the safe use and maintenance of dance studios, mirrors, flooring, sound systems, costumes, props, and equipment.
- Promote secure dance practice, injury prevention, physical conditioning, and appropriate warm-up and cool-down techniques.
- Conduct risk assessments for practical dance activities and performances.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding requirements during rehearsals and performances.

Safeguarding & Student Wellbeing

- Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and student wellbeing.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.
- Recognise, record, and report safeguarding concerns promptly in accordance with school procedures.

The Person: Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Dance, Performing Arts (Dance), Choreography, Dance Education, or a closely related discipline is essential.
- A recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Minimum three years' teaching experience in a recognised school, academy, conservatoire, or performing arts institution.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching multiple Western dance styles including Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, and Modern Dance.
- Experience choreographing performances for concerts, productions, competitions, and school events.
- Experience teaching within an international or British curriculum school is desirable.
- Current knowledge of safe dance practice, injury prevention, and child development.
- Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and student wellbeing.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning, assessment for learning, and portfolio development.
