Position Title: Server Engineer

Department: Information Technology (IT)

Reports To: Head- Information Technology

Location: Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad

Job Purpose To manage, maintain, secure and optimize the University's server infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, data security and uninterrupted IT services supporting academic, administrative, research and ERP applications.

Key Responsibilities

Server Administration

- Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux Server environments.
- Manage physical and virtual servers (VMware/ Hyper-V).
- Configure and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and File & Print Services.
- Monitor server health, CPU, memory, storage and system performance.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and firmware updates.

Storage & Backup Management

- Administer SAN/ NAS storage systems.
- Configure and monitor backup solutions.
- Ensure successful daily, weekly and monthly backups.
- Perform restoration testing and disaster recovery drills.

Virtualization & Cloud

- Manage VMware ESXi/Hyper-V infrastructure.
- Create and maintain virtual machines.
- Support cloud-based services (Microsoft Azure/AWS) wherever applicable.

Security Administration

- Implement server hardening and security best practices.
- Install security patches and operating system updates.
- Monitor antivirus and endpoint protection solutions.
- Manage user permissions and access control.
- Assist in vulnerability assessments and security audits.

Network & Infrastructure Support





- Coordinate with Network Engineers for LAN/WAN infrastructure.
- Support ERP, Learning Management System (LMS), Email Server, Website, and Database Servers.
- Troubleshoot server-related network issues.
- Maintain server room infrastructure, including UPS and environmental monitoring.

Monitoring & Documentation

- Monitor server uptime using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Maintain inventory of servers and IT assets.
- Prepare server configuration documentation, SOPs, and technical manuals.
- Maintain incident and change management records.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

- Implement disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure high availability of mission-critical services.
- Perform periodic recovery testing and document results.

User & Technical Support

- Provide Level-2/Level-3 technical support for server-related issues.
- Coordinate with software vendors and OEMs for hardware warranty and AMC support.
- Support the implementation of recent IT infrastructure projects.

Qualification & Skills

- Bachelor's/ Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- Required Technical Skills: Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Linux, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VMware ESXi / Backup Solutions, IIS/Web Server, SQL Server, PowerShell/Bash scripting, Server Monitoring Tools, Antivirus & Endpoint Security, Networking (TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, Firewall)

Experience

- Min 6 years of experience in Server Administration/ System Administration.
- Experience in educational institutions/universities will be preferred.
