Faculty position, Molecular and Diagnostic Microbiology

We are hiring: Microbiologist (MD or PhD) to lead Molecular and Diagnostic Microbiology. PNRRC, Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, is looking for a microbiologist to take charge of our diagnostic and molecular microbiology services.

Position: Consultant / Scientist, Molecular and Diagnostic Microbiology

Qualification: MD (Microbiology) or PhD in Microbiology

Location: PNRRC, Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore

Salary: Commensurate with qualification and expertise The role

You will lead the diagnostic microbiology laboratory serving a high volume tertiary eye care centre, covering microbial keratitis, endophthalmitis and ocular surface infection. You will also drive the molecular diagnostics programme, including our CRISPR/Cas12a based rapid fungal detection platform, PCR based pathogen identification, and metagenomic sequencing on an in house nanopore platform.

This is a role with real ownership. Service delivery, assay development, validation, quality systems,



and an active publishing research programme, all in one place.

Who we are looking for

Prior experience in diagnostic microbiology is essential. You should be comfortable owning a routine service laboratory and its quality standards.

We are also looking for someone with a real appetite for research. Aravind has an established research culture, an ICMR funded multicentric programme in molecular diagnostics for endophthalmitis already running, and the specimen volume and clinical partnership to answer questions that matter. What we need is someone who wants to use it.

Desirable

Experience with molecular assays, ocular or fungal microbiology, laboratory accreditation, or supervision of technical staff and postgraduate trainees.
