Day to Day

On a day-to-day basis, you will work as a Senior Java Developer supporting the ongoing development, optimisation, and enhancements for one of our Client's essential platforms. You will be responsible for feature development, product improvements, and helping to solve complex business and technical challenges across a large-scale enterprise environment.

You will gain a deep understanding of the platform, its purpose, and how its various components and microservices interact. Working within a distributed architecture of over 100 microservices, you will design, develop, maintain, test, and optimise backend services while contributing to new features, reporting capabilities, widgets, alerts, and platform enhancements.

A significant portion of the role will focus on improving system performance, scalability, observability, and resilience, while supporting event-driven architectures and cloud-native solutions hosted in AWS. You will work closely with architects, product teams, and fellow engineers to implement enhancements, improve service reliability, and ensure long-term maintainability of the platform.

The platform itself supports our Client's products globally, providing analytics, device monitoring, predictive insights, reporting, and WPT (Protect & Trace) functionality, including remote device locking, tracing, and location services.

Must Haves

7+ years of enterprise level Java 8+ development experience

Deep expertise with Spring Boot, microservices, and event-driven distributed architectures





Experience designing and building RESTful APIs

Hands on experience with AWS

Working knowledge of Docker and container-based deployment

Hands-on experience with MySQL, including schema design, query tuning, and performance optimisation

Enterprise level experience with Cloud Watch

Experience in unit testing with JUnit and Mockito

Familiarity with resiliency patterns, including Resilience4j, circuit breakers, retries, failover, self-healing services, and bulkheads

Experience working with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline

Solid hands-on experience with Java 17

Experience working within large-scale distributed systems supporting 100+ microservices

Experience with API versioning and API governance best practices

Strong understanding of authentication and authorisation patterns

Experience with synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns

Kubernetes and container orchestration experience

Experience improving platform observability, telemetry, and monitoring capabilities

Experience with API contract testing and event contract testing, including automated compatibility guarantees between microservices and consumers

Experience working across globally distributed engineering teams and time zones

Previous experience supporting large-scale analytics, reporting, device management, or enterprise-scale platforms
