About Us At CosmoChute, we are building modular, reusable lunar robotics infrastructure for long-duration planetary operations. Our systems combine mobility, modular payload deployment, survivability through lunar nights, and repair ability to make sustained presence on the Moon economically viable. We’re a deeply technical, fast-moving team that believes in real ownership, real trust and in creating an environment where your best work matters.
If you want to work on hardware that will one day operate on the moon, this is the role. Your Role
We're looking for a Senior GNC Engineer to join our core engineering team. You will be responsible for developing the navigation, localization, motion planning, and control systems that enable CosmoChute’s lunar robotic platforms to operate autonomously in complex and uncertain environments.
Working at the intersection of robotics, software, controls, perception, and systems engineering, you will help create mobility solutions capable of traversing rough terrain, navigating with limited infrastructure, and supporting long-duration lunar missions.
This is a high-ownership role, for arguably the most intriguing autonomous vehicles that will work in the most fascinatingly challenging environments What You'll Work On
Lunar rover autonomous navigation systems Visual and inertial localization solutions Hazard detection and terrain assessment algorithms Long-range autonomous traverse planning Rover mobility and wheel-slip compensation Autonomous payload deployment operations Precision positioning and mission autonomy architectures Future lunar night and multi-mission robotic infrastructure concepts Your Responsibilities
Develop guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for lunar robotic systems Design localization and state-estimation architectures for planetary surface operations
Implement path planning, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous mobility functions as well as FDIR strategies Develop motion control algorithms for rover mobility systems Support autonomous docking, payload deployment, and precision positioning operations Define GNC verification and validation strategies, including MIL, HIL, and integrated subsystem test campaigns
Build and maintain high fidelity simulation environments to validate navigation and control performance Collaborate with avionics, software, mechanical, and systems engineering teams Support mission planning, autonomy architecture development, and operational concepts Requirements
Must have 5+ years of experience in the same field
Robust understanding of control systems, estimation theory, and robotics fundamentals
Proficiency in C++, Python, or both Experience with navigation, localization, or autonomous systems development
Strong mathematical background in linear algebra, probability, optimization,
and dynamics Ability to analyze real-world data and translate results into robust engineering solutions Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking capabilities
Good to have
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field Experience with Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF), or factor-graph-based estimation Knowledge of SLAM, Visual Odometry, Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO), or terrain-relative navigation Experience with ROS 2 and robotic software architectures Familiarity with motion planning algorithms such as A*, D*, RRT, MPC, or trajectory optimization methods Experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MATLAB/Simulink, or custom simulation environments Knowledge of planetary rover navigation or autonomous vehicle systems Understanding of control theory, PID controllers, model-based control, and nonlinear control systems Exposure to computer vision and machine learning for robotics applications What we deeply value
Curiosity and ownership
Ability to learn quickly across disciplines
Practical engineering judgment and first principles thinking
Profound mutual respect among co-workers
Strong grit towards troubleshooting and iterative development
Cross-disciplinary thinking and collaboration Benefits
Competitive compensation Equity participation
Meaningful long-term growth potential
Complete honesty with only legally required abstractions
