Job Summary

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager to lead a critical team within 7-Eleven's Enterprise Data Platform organization at our Global Solution Centre. In this role, you will drive mission-critical initiatives across the Data Analytics and AI domains - building the foundational platforms that power customer insights, personalization, and Gen AI use cases for one of the world's largest convenience retailers. You will lead a team of engineers, managers, and tech leads, partnering closely with global product, data science, and business stakeholders to shape our data and AI roadmap.

If you are energized by transforming how a Fortune 100 retailer leverages data and AI at scale, we would love to hear from you.

Location: Bangalore

Responsibilities

- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team of 15-25 engineers (including managers and tech leads) building and operating 7-Eleven's enterprise data platform, enabling analytics, AI/ML, and business reporting across the organization.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of critical data platform initiatives - from ingestion, storage, and processing to consumption layers - ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency at retail scale.
- Partner with the Data Analytics and AI leadership to design, build, and operationalize platforms that power enterprise analytics, advanced customer insights, personalization, demand forecasting, and Gen AI / ML use cases.
- Drive the roadmap for modernizing our data platform - including real-time streaming, lakehouse architectures, and cloud-native data services - aligned with the company's digital transformation and convenience-retail strategy.
- Establish and champion engineering excellence across the team: solid engineering rigor across CI/CD, version control, test automation, observability, data quality, and platform SLAs. Own the delivery metrics (quality, productivity, cycle time)

for the team and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, data science, security, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical roadmaps, balancing speed with long-term platform health.
- Act as the technical and people leader for the team - hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development of managers and senior engineers. Build succession depth and grow the next layer of leaders within the GSC.
- Drive AI-readiness of the data platform - ensuring the right data foundations (feature stores, vector stores, governance, lineage, MLOps pipelines) are in place to accelerate AI and Gen AI initiatives across the enterprise.
- Partner with GSC and US leadership to represent the team's work, report progress against commitments, manage risks proactively, and ensure alignment with global priorities.
- Champion a culture of customer obsession, accountability, and "it can be done" attitude - role-modelling the 7-Eleven Leadership Principles in everyday decisions and team rituals.
- Own the financial and capacity planning for the team - headcount, vendor engagements, tooling, and cloud spend - and optimize for business value delivered.
- Stay current with emerging trends in data engineering, AI/ML infrastructure, and retail-tech - and bring outside-in thinking to the organization to keep us ahead of the curve.

Educational & Required Qualifications
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and technologies such as Kafka, Spark,

and modern data streaming / processing frameworks.
- Experience in software development life cycle activities, with strong engineering rigor across CI/CD, version control (Git / GitLab), build and automation tooling.
- Proficient in testing frameworks and able to embed quality practices across the engineering organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - able to brief VP / CXO stakeholders, influence across geographies, and navigate a matrixed global organization.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring managers and senior engineers to help them grow to their full potential.
- Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical roadmaps and architecture decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- 12-17 years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 4-5 years in engineering management roles leading teams of 15+ (including managing other managers).
- Prior experience in retail, e-commerce, CPG, or convenience-retail tech organizations strongly preferred - with exposure to customer data platforms, loyalty, merchandising, supply chain, or store operations data.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale data platforms on cloud (AWS / Azure / GCP), with hands-on understanding of the modern data stack - Databricks / Snowflake, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, dbt, Iceberg / Delta Lake.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with data science and AI teams to productionize ML / Gen AI workloads - familiarity with MLOps, feature stores, vector databases, and LLM pipelines is a strong plus.
