: Senior Azure API Management Specialist
Location: [City, Country / Remote]
Experience Level: 4–8 Years
Employment Type: Full-Time
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Azure API Management Specialist with 4 to 8 years of hands-on expertise in designing, building, securing, and maintaining enterprise API gateways on Microsoft Azure. In this role, you will lead the architecture and implementation of API integration strategies, connecting modern RESTful services and legacy SOAP web services, while automating API lifecycle deployments using Azure DevOps and Git.
Key Responsibilities
API Design & Integration
Design, configure, and maintain scalable API solutions using Azure API Management (APIM).
Publish, secure, transform, and expose both REST and SOAP web services to internal and external consumers.
Define and maintain OpenAPI/Swagger specifications to ensure clear, consistent API documentation and developer portal integration.
Implement API policies (e.g., rate limiting, throttling, authentication, transformation, cross-origin resource sharing, caching, and custom XML/C# policy snippets).
Security & Governance
Enforce security standards across API endpoints using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT validation, Mutual TLS (mTLS), and Azure Active Directory (Azure AD/Entra ID).
Integrate APIM with Key Vault, VNet/Subnets, Application Gateway, and Azure Front Door for network isolation and security.
DevOps & Automation
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for automated API provisioning, policy deployment, and configuration drift prevention.
Use Git for strict version control, branching strategies,
and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) management.
Implement API versioning, revision control, and deprecation strategies.
Monitoring & Maintenance
Set up telemetry, logging, and monitoring using Azure Application Insights, Log Analytics, and Azure Monitor to proactively detect and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and continuous enhancement of existing API infrastructure.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 4 to 8 years of dedicated experience in API management, cloud integration, and software development.
Core Platform: Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure API Management (APIM) implementation and configuration.
API Architectures: Robust experience with both RESTful APIs and legacy SOAP web services (SOAP-to-REST transformations, WSDL imports).
Documentation & Standards: Advanced knowledge of OpenAPI (OAS 2.0/3.0) / Swagger specification design and testing (using tools like Postman, SoapUI).
CI/CD & Source Control: Solid experience with Azure DevOps (Azure Pipelines) and Git for version control and automated deployments.
Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform for APIM configuration management.
Security & Auth: Understanding of identity protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, SAML, mTLS) and Azure Key Vault integration.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400).
Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or Event Grid.
Programming/Scripting experience in C#, PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
