Description

A4I Lab is seeking a Senior AI Designer to design and scale agentic systems for public and social impact. The role combines hands-on architecture work with technical leadership across production AI platforms.

Role: SENIOR AI DESIGNER

Location: IIIT Bangalore

Experience

- 6 to 8 years of experience

- At least 2 years focused on production AI or ML applications

- Experience designing and building software systems

- Experience designing and shipping production-grade AI systems

- Experience with at least one end-to-end agentic or LLM-powered workload used by real users

Qualification

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent demonstrated expertise

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent demonstrated expertise

Responsibilities

- Design end-to-end agentic AI architectures from prototype to production

- Translate social-impact use cases into robust, auditable systems

- Build AI platforms that integrate LLMs, retrieval systems, structured and unstructured data, and multi-modal inputs

- Guide design of RAG pipelines, knowledge layers, model integration patterns, and evaluation approaches

- Define architectural standards for deployment, monitoring, versioning, and secure rollout

- Help establish engineering and MLOps practices for production readiness

- Work closely with engineers, researchers,



and partner stakeholders on technical decisions and trade-offs

- Mentor team members and support strong technical documentation

- Build reusable open-source assets for Digital Public Goods

Additional Responsibilities

- Work in multilingual and low-resource environments

- Support real-world operating conditions and diverse stakeholder needs

- Remain closely connected to delivery and implementation

- Work across multiple stakeholders and use cases

- Balance performance, cost, resilience, usability, maintainability, team velocity, and long-term platform evolution

Nice To Have

- Experience adapting smaller or open models such as Llama, Mistral, or Phi for domain-specific tasks

- PEFT

- LoRA

- Instruction tuning

- Hands-on exposure to VLMs

- Hands-on exposure to speech models

- Experience with multilingual or Indic-language pipelines

- Familiarity with Azure OpenAI services

- Familiarity with open-source deployment options such as Ollama, vLLM, or Hugging Face

- Prior work in social impact, public sector, or resource-constrained settings

- Experience with AI evaluation frameworks such as RAGAS or LangSmith

- Contributions to open-source AI projects

- Technical publications

- Applied ML work
