Qualifications

Essential

● B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial, Safety, or a related Engineering discipline.

● Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS/PDIS) or NEBOSH certification

(Mandatory).

Preferred

● Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety.

Experience

● 3–6 years of experience as a Safety Officer in a manufacturing environment.

● Experience in engineering, metal processing, automotive, or knife manufacturing industries is preferred.

● Strong working knowledge of the Factories Act, industrial safety standards, statutory compliance, and EHS regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety Management

● Implement and enforce EHS policies, procedures, and safety standards across the plant. ● Conduct routine safety inspections to identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.

● Monitor and ensure compliance with PPE requirements and plant safety regulations.

● Promote safe work practices across production, maintenance, warehouse, utilities, and contractor work areas.

1. Risk Assessment

● Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA). ● Prepare Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for critical operations.

● Recommend corrective and preventive actions to eliminate workplace hazards.

● Track and verify the implementation of safety improvement initiatives.

1. Incident Management

● Investigate accidents, near misses, first-aid cases, and unsafe conditions. ● Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions

(CAPA).

● Maintain accident investigation reports and statutory safety records.

● Conduct incident review meetings with department heads and monitor action closure.

1. Fire & Emergency Management

● Ensure inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers, hydrants, alarm systems, and emergency equipment.



● Plan and conduct emergency evacuation drills and mock drills.

● Coordinate with local Fire & Rescue Services whenever required.

● Maintain emergency preparedness and response plans.

1. Safety Training & Awareness

● Conduct safety induction programs for new employees, apprentices, trainees, and contractors. ● Organize periodic safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and refresher training.

● Deliver training on:

○ PPE usage

○ Emergency response

○ Machine safety

○ Safe lifting techniques

○ Fire safety

○ LOTO procedures

1. Machine & Workplace Safety

● Verify the effectiveness of machine guarding and interlock systems. ● Ensure secure operation of:

○ Press machines

○ Grinding machines

○ CNC machines

○ Heat treatment equipment

○ Polishing and buffing machines

○ Injection moulding machines

○ Material handling equipment

● Monitor electrical safety practices and ensure proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

implementation during maintenance.

1. Contractor Safety

● Ensure contractor personnel comply with company safety standards. ● Verify contractor safety documentation and statutory requirements.

● Administer and monitor work permit systems for:

○ Hot Work

○ Work at Height

○ Confined Space Entry

○ Electrical Work

1. Statutory Compliance

● Ensure compliance with applicable Factory Safety Regulations and EHS legislation. ● Maintain all statutory records, registers, licenses, and documentation.

● Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.

● Support internal and external EHS audits and ensure timely closure of observations.

1. Environmental Management





● Monitor waste segregation and disposal practices. ● Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, oils, lubricants, and hazardous materials.

● Promote environmental compliance and implement 5S housekeeping practices.

1. Safety Reporting

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly EHS reports, including: ● Near Miss Reports

● First Aid Cases

● Lost Time Injuries (LTI)

● Unsafe Acts & Unsafe Conditions

● PPE Compliance Status

● Safety Training Records

● Corrective Action Closure Reports

● Safety KPI Dashboard

Required Skills

● Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices and manufacturing safety standards.

● Sound understanding of machine safety and manufacturing processes.

● Knowledge of Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, LOTO, Work Permit Systems, and Risk

Assessment methodologies.

● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigation skills.

● Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to conduct safety training.

● Experience in conducting audits and preparing technical reports.

● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Knowledge

● ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.

● 5S, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.

● Emergency preparedness and response planning.

● Safety audit techniques and compliance management.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

● Zero fatal accidents.

● Reduction in first-aid cases and near-miss incidents.

● 100% PPE compliance across the facility.

● Timely closure of safety observations and corrective actions.

● Completion of monthly safety training programs.

● Successful completion of statutory inspections and internal/external audits.

● Continuous improvement in safety awareness, compliance, and workplace housekeeping.
