Functional Area: Microbiology | Virology | Applied Biotechnology | Bacteriophage Research | Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) | One Health Research Astraphage Innovations Pvt. Ltd., an early-stage biotechnology startup based in Hyderabad, is inviting applications for the position of Research Scientist.

This is the company’s first scientific hire and offers a unique opportunity to build a bacteriophage research program and laboratory from the ground up. The role focuses on developing bacteriophage-based therapeutics and diagnostics to combat priority antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens across human, animal, and environmental health sectors. ? What You’ll Work On Bacteriophage Isolation & Discovery Design and execute field sampling across clinical and agricultural environments to isolate bacteriophages targeting priority AMR pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Phage

Characterization & Genomics Perform plaque assays, host-range determination, one-step growth curves, electron microscopy coordination, genome extraction, sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and phylogenetic classification. Stability & Efficacy Studies Evaluate bacteriophage stability under different environmental conditions and conduct efficacy testing through in vitro, in vivo, and relevant clinical or food-related models.

Laboratory





Development & Operations Establish laboratory infrastructure, develop SOPs, procure laboratory equipment and consumables, and implement BSL-2 safety procedures.

Scientific

Research & Innovation Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, intellectual property development, and stay updated with emerging phage biology research.

Team Leadership

Mentor junior scientists and contribute to building and leading the scientific research team as the organization grows. ? Ideal Candidates You hold a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Virology, Applied Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline. You have hands-on experience in isolating, propagating, titrating, and characterizing bacteriophages. You possess prior experience working with priority antimicrobial-resistant pathogens relevant to human or veterinary health, including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

You are passionate about translational biotechnology and excited to build a research laboratory from the ground up in a startup environment. ?
