People & Careers NTDA names Ian Andrew as new CEO Published: June 9, 2025 Author: James Lockwood NTDA appoints Ian Andrew as new Chief Executive. | Image: National Tyre Distributors Association The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has confirmed the appointment of Ian Andrew as its next Chief Executive Officer. He will succeed long-serving CEO Stefan Hay, who steps down at the end of July after more than a decade in the role. Leadership transition at NTDA Ian Andrew joins the NTDA following a distinguished career spanning nearly 20 years in membership bodies and professional development.

Most recently CEO of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), he has also held senior roles at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and in the Scottish education and training sector. His appointment comes as the NTDA enters a new chapter, with the organisation in a financially strong position and widely recognised for its influence on key issues affecting the UK tyre trade. Ian will begin in June, working alongside Stefan Hay during a short handover period.

A new chapter after 11 years of leadership Stefan Hay's 11-year tenure has seen the NTDA undergo significant transformation. Under his leadership, the association has: ◼ Built a financially robust operating model ◼ Grown its reputation for strategic engagement with government and regulators ◼ Delivered flagship programmes including REACT and the Tyre Technician Professional Development Scheme (TTPDS), which have issued over 16,000 technician licences since 2013 These initiatives have not only raised safety standards within the tyre trade but also positioned the industry as a critical part of national road safety efforts. Stefan’s Influence Has Extended To Policy Wins Including:



◼ The ban on 10-year-old tyres for trucks and buses ◼ Approval for red flashing lights on roadside response vehicles ◼ Successfully opposing extended MOT intervals NTDA National Chairman Martin O’Brien praised Stefan’s legacy, stating: “The Association now stands in its strongest financial position in decades... with a reputation for proactive leadership on the most pressing challenges facing the UK tyre trade.” Stefan leaves the NTDA to become CEO of the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) in August.

Incoming CEO brings governance and training expertise Ian Andrew brings extensive expertise in governance, membership engagement and qualification standards—skills that align closely with the NTDA’s focus on technician licensing, industry safety and member support. His prior achievements include leading the BPCA and working with the Beech Centre to establish the Institute for Organisational Development. He has also held multiple leadership roles in Scotland’s education and training bodies, with a focus on standards, skills and performance.
