Purpose/Objective The Lead Engineering – Reactor Island will be responsible for engineering management, technical integration, and design oversight of all Reactor Island systems for nuclear power projects.

The role will serve as the focal point between technology suppliers, Owner's Engineers, EPC contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams to ensure protected, compliant, and timely engineering delivery of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) and associated safety-related systems.

The position will support the Head – Nuclear Engineering in establishing engineering excellence, maintaining design integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling efficient project execution across all phases from technology selection through commissioning and operational handover.

This role is aligned with AAEL's objective of building internal nuclear engineering capability and progressively strengthening design ownership.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Reactor Island Engineering Delivery - Lead engineering activities for the Reactor Island, including NSSS and safety-related systems.

- Ensure timely development, review, and approval of engineering deliverables in accordance with project schedule.
- Monitor engineering progress and identify potential bottlenecks affecting procurement, licensing, construction, or commissioning.
- Coordinate design reviews and technical assessments across reactor island disciplines.
- Ensure alignment between reactor technology supplier deliverables and project execution requirements. Nuclear Systems Engineering & Design Integration - Manage engineering integration for:
- Reactor Core Systems - Primary Heat Transport System - Steam Generators - Pressurizers - Reactor Coolant Systems - Emergency Core Cooling Systems - Safety Injection Systems - Radioactive Waste Systems - Containment Systems - Fuel Handling Systems - Nuclear HVAC and Ventilation Systems - Radiation Monitoring Systems - Ensure consistency of design basis across all reactor island systems.

- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces among civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C;,



and safety engineering teams.
- Lead technical resolution of design conflicts and interface issues. Design Authority & Configuration Management Support - Support establishment and implementation of Design Authority processes under guidance of Head – Nuclear Engineering.

- Review design changes and modifications affecting nuclear safety, reliability, operability, and constructability.
- Ensure all engineering changes are assessed through appropriate configuration management processes.
- Maintain design basis documentation and engineering records. Technical Specification & Procurement Support - Support development and review technical specifications for major reactor island equipment and packages.

- Participate in bid evaluations and technical clarification meetings.
- Review vendor engineering documents and manufacturing drawings.
- Support long-lead equipment identification and procurement planning.
- Assist QA/QC teams in technical inspections and supplier assessments. Regulatory & Licensing Support - Support preparation of engineering documentation required for:

- Site Approval - Construction Consent - Regulatory Design Reviews - Commissioning Clearances - Operational Licensing - Coordinate technical responses to regulatory observations from AERB and other authorities.

- Ensure compliance with applicable: - AERB Codes and Guides - IAEA Standards - ASME Nuclear Codes - RCC-M - IEC Standards - International Nuclear Best Practices - Participate in regulator interactions and technical presentations Construction & Commissioning Engineering Support - Resolve site engineering queries and non-conformances.

- Support construction sequencing and constructability reviews.




- Lead technical evaluation of field change requests.
- Support commissioning procedure reviews and pre-operational testing activities.
- Ensure engineering closure of punch points and commissioning observations. Reactor Technology & Capability Development - Develop in-house expertise in selected reactor technologies such as:

- PHWR - VVER - AP1000 - EPR - SMR technologies - Capture and institutionalize lessons learned from global and Indian nuclear projects.

- Mentor junior engineers and develop engineering competency within the organization.
- Support implementation of digital engineering tools, engineering databases, and knowledge management systems.

- 15+ years in nuclear power, conventional power, or other highly regulated process industries.
- Minimum 8–10 years of direct experience in reactor island engineering, systems engineering, design review, commissioning, or project engineering.
- Exposure to PHWR and/or international LWR technologies.

- Experience working with AERB, NPCIL, reactor vendors, or Owner's Engineers would be highly preferred

Technical Competencies

- Strong understanding of nuclear reactor systems and NSSS architecture.

,• Proven experience in nuclear power plant engineering, design review, or project engineering.

,• Knowledge of Indian nuclear regulatory framework and international nuclear standards.

,• Ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering interfaces across large-scale infrastructure projects,• Strong stakeholder management skills involving technology suppliers, regulators, consultants, and EPC partners

Qualifications and Experience

- 15+ years in nuclear power, conventional power, or other highly regulated process industries.
- Minimum 8–10 years of direct experience in reactor island engineering, systems engineering, design review, commissioning, or project engineering.
- Exposure to PHWR and/or international LWR technologies.
