Job Responsibilities:
Provides information, training, guidance and support for prevention and control of infection within the hospital.
Responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of Hospital Acquired infections; educating employees about infection control and ensuring the implementation of various infection control policies in the hospital.
Main Job Responsibilities
The infection control Nurse is responsible for Surveillance:
- The infection control supervisor plans, develops, directs, implements and evaluates infection prevention within a hospital or health care facility.
- They instruct personnel in proper infection control procedure.
They investigate infection control problems and arrange follow-up care for patients exposed to infectious diseases.
- Conduct rounds, discussing and monitoring infection control practices with staff.
- Collect infection control data from departments, maintaining records for each case; trains staff on implementation of infection control practices.
- Investigate incidents of infection.
- Report incidents to the reporting authorities.
- Ensure the availability of supplies required for infection control.
- Plan and develop recommendations, implement and monitor policies and procedures for hospital staff regarding infection control practices.
- Monitor CSSD for proper sterilization, disinfection and decontamination instruments and equipment
Collect record and analyze hospital records and lab reports to assess the extent of a disease outbreak in order to make the appropriate recommendations for action.
Infection control practitioners must communicate with all divisions and departments of the hospital.
Collecting data in support of epidemiological studies of specific problems or problem areas to determine the source of the problem and make appropriate recommendations
Skills:
- The infection control Nurse must be a very energetic individual with the desire to develop and implement infection control training programs.
- They should be able to plan and conduct training seminars and exercises with a working knowledge of nursing practice and theory.
They must possess excellent written, interpersonal, time management and presentation skills with flexibility to meet a wide range of service needs.
Education Training
Plan, organize, develop and implement educational programs for all hospital employees on infection control practices.
Develop appropriate informational materials at appropriate level of understanding and need.
Serve as a knowledgeable and available resource on infection control practices and policies to patients, families staff.
Develop and Edit infection control practices and procedures in accordance with current standard and evidence based guidelines. Routinely monitor compliance with set policies and protocols.
Detects and Investigates suspected hospital associated infections on a systematic and current basis, and collects relevant information. Investigates all significant Infection Control problems
Report all Notifiable diseases to the medical records when indicated.
- Inspects the environment and observes personnel activities for the purpose of detecting possible infection hazards and evaluating compliance with standards set by the Infection Control Committee.
- Follow up of all Infections in Cloudnine personnel and assists in the development of the Hospital Employee Health Program.
- Collaborates with the clinician and other units for routine monitoring the infection control practices.
Educator Role Responsibilities
Nursing induction for new join staff
Plan and conduct orientation programs for newly joined nursing staff.
Workshop and skill-based training related to:
Antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care
Labour room practices
Neonatal care and breastfeeding support
Conduct competency assessments and skill validations.
Edit nursing staff on latest evidence-based practices and hospital protocols.
1. Clinical Practice Support
Guide nursing staff in safe, ethical, and evidence-based maternity care.
Support adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and clinical guidelines.
Assist staff in managing high-risk obstetric cases under medical guidance.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities.
2. Quality Safety
Promote infection control practices and patient safety standards.
Participate in NABH / accreditation-related training and documentation.
Monitor nursing practices and provide feedback for improvement.
Assist in incident reporting, analysis, and corrective action training.
3. Documentation Records
Maintain records of training programs, attendance, and competency assessments.
Prepare educational materials, manuals, and guidelines.
Assist in maintaining compliance documentation for audits and inspections.
4. Leadership Mentoring
Mentor and coach nursing staff to enhance professional development.
Encourage continuous learning and best practices.
Coordinate with nursing management and multidisciplinary teams.
