About The Role

We're looking for a Head of Legal to build and lead Lawxy's legal function from the ground up. This is a rare prospect to shape legal strategy at a company that is also reimagining the legal industry itself. You won't just practice law, you'll help design the products and frameworks that change how legal services are delivered.

You'll report directly to CEO and work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to protect the company, enable its growth, and embed legal thinking into everything Lawxy builds.

What You'll Do

Legal Strategy & Leadership

- Own Lawxy's legal strategy end-to-end and build out the legal function as the company scales
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on legal risk, regulatory exposure, and strategic decisions

Commercial & Contracts

- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements: customer and vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and enterprise deals
- Build scalable contract templates, playbooks, and approval workflows

Product & LegalTech

- Partner with product and engineering to design legal frameworks for new digital legal services and features
- Advise on legal and regulatory considerations baked into product design from day one

Compliance & Risk

- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations across the jurisdictions Lawxy operates in
- Own data privacy, IP protection, and enterprise risk management
- Monitor regulatory developments relevant to legal-tech and digital services, and translate them into action

Operations

- Manage outside counsel and external legal service providers, optimizing for quality and cost




- Build internal legal policies, templates, and processes that make the rest of the company self-sufficient on routine legal matters
- Support fundraising, partnerships, and business expansion with legal diligence and structuring

What We're Looking For

- 8+ years of corporate/commercial legal experience, including 3+ years in an in-house role (in-house experience strongly preferred over pure law-firm background)
- Law degree (LLB/JD or equivalent) from an accredited institution; active bar admission/enrollment required
- Demonstrated ownership of 50+ commercial contracts (customer, vendor, or partnership agreements) drafted, reviewed, or negotiated per year in a recent role
- At least 2+ years managing outside counsel relationships and legal budgets (experience overseeing external spend of $100K+ annually preferred)
- Experience building or scaling a legal function from 1-3 person team to a larger function , or having done so within the last 5 years
- Hands-on experience with data privacy compliance (e.g., GDPR, DPDP, CCPA, or equivalent regional frameworks) covering at least 1 full compliance implementation cycle
- Track record of reducing average contract turnaround time or measurably improving legal-ops efficiency (e.g., cutting review time by 20%+) preferred
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder-advisory skills, evidenced by direct ownership of high-value deals ( $1M+ contract value or above)
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and building processes from scratch (this isn't a maintain-the-status-quo role)
- Genuine interest in LegalTech and digital business models; prior exposure to a startup or technology company of 500+ employees is a strong plus
