Head of Global SAP Platforms

About the role

bp is undertaking a multi-year transformation of its global ERP landscape, transitioning from SAP ECC in AWS to SAP S/4HANA through RISE with SAP. Collaborating with the VP Digital, ERP & M&A;, the Head of Global SAP Platforms is accountable for the performance, security, resilience, and strategic evolution of bp's global SAP estate. This role combines operational leadership with technology strategy, ensuring business-critical SAP services remain reliable while supporting one of bp's largest transformation programmes. As a member of both the SAP leadership team and the Quantum programme leadership team, the role will help shape platform decisions, technology investments, and the future SAP roadmap across bp.

What you'll be responsible for

The role has end-to-end accountability for SAP platforms spanning SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, AWS, RISE with SAP, supporting technologies, and platform services.

Key responsibilities include:

- Defining and executing the SAP platform strategy and roadmap.
- Ensuring secure, resilient, and reliable platform operations globally.
- Leading modernization initiatives, including automation, cloud adoption, and engineering improvements.
- Driving delivery across operational and transformation portfolios.
- Managing technology risk, governance, compliance, and lifecycle planning.
- Building robust partnerships with SAP, Accenture, business stakeholders, and architecture teams.
- Overseeing financial planning, investment decisions, and vendor performance.
- Developing a high-performing global organization focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Success in the role requires balancing long-term strategic priorities with day-to-day operational decisions across a complex global environment.

Scale and complexity

This role operates across one of bp's largest enterprise technology estates and:
- Leads approximately 80 bp employees.
- Works closely with around 300 Accenture professionals.
- Oversees annual spend exceeding $100 million.
- Supports critical ERP services across multiple businesses and geographies.
- Plays a leadership role in bp's SAP S/4HANA and RISE transformation through 2030.

What we're looking for





We're seeking a technology leader with deep SAP expertise and experience operating enterprise-scale platforms.

Candidates will typically bring:

- 18+ years of experience within large global SAP environments.
- Proficient in SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, RISE with SAP, and platform technologies.
- Experience delivering major transformation programmes while maintaining operational stability.
- Expertise in cloud-hosted enterprise platforms, ideally AWS.
- Solid understanding of platform operations, resilience, cybersecurity, and risk management.
- Experience managing strategic technology vendors and partner ecosystems.
- Commercial and financial management experience.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead across organizational boundaries.
