About Hygenco

Hygenco Green Energies is a green hydrogen project developer in India, building and operating green hydrogen and green ammonia projects end-to-end. As the industry scales, Hygenco is building in-house engineering and fabrication-delivery capabilities across its critical equipment supply chain to control cost, quality, schedule, and IP risk on its projects, rather than depending entirely on external EPCs and OEMs.

The role

You will lead production engineering and fabrication delivery for Hygenco's Principal Technology packages. You take over once design/detailed engineering is complete and issued for construction (IFC): from there, you own production engineering, qualified third-party fabrication, testing and dispatch. This is a hands-on build-and-delivery role, not an engineering-design role: you will be personally accountable for the schedule, cost, and build quality of every package that leaves the shop.

What you'll do

- Own production engineering. Convert approved IFC design engineering into complete, fabrication-ready shop packages — skid/fabrication drawings, structural skid design, lifting and transport load analysis, inter-equipment piping and instrument hook-up within the skid boundary, weld maps, NDT plans, BOMs, jigs and fixtures, and the full build dossier.
- Manage fabrication end to end. Qualify, select and contract third-party fabricators; own technical scope, schedule and in-shop build quality through to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and dispatch.
- Ensure code compliance. Ensure IBR, PESO/CCOE and ASME code compliance is maintained through fabrication; manage the third-party inspection (TPIA) chain.
- Build the vendor base. Develop and maintain a qualified panel of fabricators capable of building Hygenco's packages repeatably.
- Own documentation. Maintain the QMS, Inspection and Test Plans, build dossiers and technical documentation for every package delivered.
- Build the team. Grow the delivery function as volumes increase, and develop production-engineering and inspection capability in-house over time rather than staying permanently dependent on external partners.

What we're looking for This is a hands-on build leader, not a project manager. The right person has spent most of their career in a shop or alongside fabricators — understanding tolerances, weld procedures, pressure-testing rigs, lifting gear, and the practical difference between a drawing that looks right and one that can actually be built. The hydrogen industry is recent; the fabrication discipline is not.

Candidates without deep fabrication and skid-build experience will not succeed regardless of their process or project credentials.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Production Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. A degree from a Tier-1 Indian institute is not a requirement; hands-on fabrication depth matters more than academic pedigree. A post-graduate qualification in welding engineering, quality management, or project management is a plus.

Years of experience

15–20 years total, of which at least 8–10 years must be in fabrication, modular skid-build, or package delivery in a shop or vendor-management role. A purely site-based or project-management background without fabrication depth does not qualify.

Skid-build and modular fabrication (essential)

Direct, hands-on experience managing or executing the fabrication of process equipment skids — complete, shop-built, pre-piped, pre-wired, pre-tested modular units dispatched to site for mechanical integration. Must understand:

- Structural skid design, load analysis, and material selection for fabricated skid structures
- Inter-equipment piping, instrument hook-up and cable routing within the skid boundary, fabricated and tested in shop before dispatch
- Jig and fixture design for repeatable fabrication of identical or similar package versions
- Pressure testing (hydrostatic and pneumatic) and leak testing in a controlled shop environment, not at site
- FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) planning and execution, with the package instrumented, energised and running before it leaves the shop
- Lifting analysis, transport engineering, and dispatch packaging for road or rail movement of heavy, fragile or high-value skids

Pressure equipment and hazardous service (essential) Working knowledge of fabrication and inspection requirements for pressure vessels and piping systems in hazardous service. Familiarity with:

- IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) — applicability, inspection obligations, and how to manage IBR compliance during fabrication
- PESO / CCOE requirements for compressed gas and flammable gas equipment
- ASME Section VIII (pressure vessels) and ASME B31.3 (process piping)

as design and fabrication references, even where Indian codes apply
- Hazardous area classification (HAC) requirements for skid electrical and instrumentation design
- Experience with hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, or ammonia service is a strong advantage.

Quality systems and inspection (essential) Hands-on ownership or management of:

- QMS (ISO 9001 or equivalent) implementation and maintenance in a fabrication or package delivery context
- Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) — authoring, hold/witness/review point classification, and surveillance execution
- WPS / PQR management — understanding of weld procedure qualification requirements and how to manage a weld procedure library across multiple fabricators
- NDT planning — NDE method selection (RT, UT, MPT, DPT) appropriate to material and service, and management of TPIA (Third Party Inspection Agency) engagement
- NCR management — non-conformance identification, root-cause analysis, disposition, and verification of corrective action at the shop floor level.

Vendor development and supply chain (essential) Has built or significantly developed a qualified fabricator base:

- Experience qualifying coded fabricators — what to look for in a shop visit: overhead crane capacity, WPS library, NDT capability, QMS certification, and production engineering depth
- Technical vendor selection and evaluation — assessing a fabricator's ability to build a specific package type, not just their general ISO certification
- Expediting at works — maintaining schedule visibility, resolving blockers, and driving quality discipline at the shop floor during a live build
- Rate contract negotiation and vendor performance management across a panel of approved fabricators.

Production engineering and detailing (desirable) Ability to review or guide production engineering work: fabrication drawings, 3D models, weld maps, NDT plans, BOMs, and build dossiers. You will not need to produce these personally, but you must know when they are correct, when they will cause problems at the shop, and how to give useful technical direction to the production engineering team.

Leadership and organisation building

Has built and led a multidisciplinary delivery team — not just managed a team handed to them. Experience starting a function from scratch, hiring the first few people, establishing processes before they exist, and growing into a mature organisation is strongly preferred over experience managing a large, established department.
