- Emergency GI Care: Initial assessment and stabilization of acute GI emergencies like upper/lower GI bleeds, acute pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, and acute liver failure.
- Inpatient Ward Rounds: Conduct regular checks on admitted patients, monitor vital signs, review lab results, and adjust baseline treatment charts.
- Pre- and Post-Procedure Care: Prepare patients for endoscopies, colonoscopies, or surgeries, and monitor them post-procedure for complications like sedation issues or internal bleeding.
- Emergency Procedures: Perform or assist with basic life support, IV cannulation, Ryles tube insertion, catheterization, and paracentesis (ascitic tapping).
- Consultant Coordination: Escalate critical changes in patient status promptly to the primary Gastroenterologist or GI Surgeon.
- Documentation & Discharge:
Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR), write detailed daily progress notes, and prepare smooth patient discharge summaries.
Performance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Response Time: Speed of attending to ward calls, nursing alerts, and emergency ER entries.
- Clinical Accuracy: Correct initial assessment of GI symptoms and timely escalation of high-risk cases.
- Documentation Quality: Complete, error-free entry of vitals, medical orders, and discharge summaries in the hospital EMR.
- Patient Satisfaction: Maintaining a reassuring, skilled demeanor during stressful acute episodes.
