We are looking for an experienced and proactive Buyer specializing in Stainless Steel (SS) and Mild Steel (MS) raw materials, specifically coils and sheets. The ideal candidate will manage the end-to-end procurement process, ensure uninterrupted raw material availability for production, drive cost optimization, and manage vendor relationships while adhering to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Planning
- Source and arrange material as per the approved production plan to prevent any stockouts.
- Coordinate with Production and Stores teams to ensure a smooth, continuous flow of raw materials (RM).
- Adhere to SOPs in all purchasing and procurement activities.
Cost & Pricing Management
- Work on continuous cost reduction initiatives through strategic negotiations and value engineering.
- Work out detailed costing sheets for all raw materials to analyze market trends and price breakdowns.
- Monitor commodity prices (LME/global/domestic steel markets) and act swiftly to secure cost savings and optimal buying windows.
Vendor Management & Development
- Develop current vendors capable of delivering the right quality at the right price.
- Evaluate and audit suppliers regularly based on performance, delivery timelines, and pricing competitiveness.
Inventory & Risk Management
- Control inventory levels according to set organizational standards and working capital targets.
- Monitor aging inventory and drive action plans to reduce or utilize slow-moving stock.
- Develop and implement strategies to de-risk supply issues, including identifying secondary backup sources and managing lead times.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain all purchase records, contracts, vendor quotations, and delivery logs accurately in the ERP system/files.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering
- Experience: 3 to 6 years of hands-on procurement experience, specifically dealing with steel commodities (SS and MS coils, sheets, plates).
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding of steel market dynamics, pricing trends, and costing sheets.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and MS Excel.
Excellent cross-functional coordination and communication skills.
