About Halfplane Research

We are a small research company building practical tools for quantitative finance. We are looking for a founding systems engineer to help turn good ideas into dependable products.

About the role

You will work closely with the founders to build and improve the systems behind our research and software. You do not need a background in finance. We care more about how you think, how you learn, and whether you have built things that work.

What you will do

- Move work from early research to working software.
- Build simple, dependable tools and processes.
- Improve how applications are tested, launched, monitored, and fixed.
- Make important systems understandable and recoverable.
- Work with the founders to decide what to build next.
- Help us use AI tools in a practical and dependable way.

What we are looking for
- You have built and maintained a meaningful project, product, or system.
- You can write clear code and make sensible technical decisions.




- You enjoy making messy processes simpler.
- You can work independently and explain your thinking clearly.
- You are curious about AI, software, and quantitative finance.

A degree is not required. Show us something real: a repository, live system, architecture note, or other substantial work sample.

The founding arrangement

This role starts with a two-month sweat-equity trial, with milestones agreed together. If the milestones are met, the intended continuation is stipend plus ESOP and a founding-team seat.
