Job Description
HCG Hospital, Borivali is seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to oversee all facility operations, engineering systems, and infrastructure upkeep across the hospital. The role demands robust technical expertise, leadership ability, and a deep commitment to patient safety, quality standards, and cost efficiency.
Role & responsibilities
Facility & infrastructure maintenance
- Coordinate with concerned departments for upkeep and maintenance of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil (painting, plastering, flooring, false ceiling, waterproofing), Medical Gases (Gas Manifold), Carpentry, Plumbing, Non-medical equipment, UPS, Air-conditioning, EPABX, Sewage Treatment Plant, and Lifts/Elevators.
- Ensure continuous and safe water supply to the hospital; manage pumping to overhead tanks and back-up plans during shortage; coordinate with the Infection Control team for tank cleaning.
- Ensure electricity is appropriately distributed, monitored, and backed up for critical areas; maintain an Electrical Outage plan and ensure it is executed during failures.
- Oversee maintenance of all mechanical devices, equipment, and machines including repair, modification, lubrication, and replacement.
- Manage service, repair, and upkeep of hospital vehicles (Ambulance, Ambulette, Company Cars) and validate associated costs.
Interdepartmental support
- Support the IT team with EPABX hardware maintenance.
- Support CSSD maintenance at the HCG Double Road facility.
- Assist the Projects team with minor renovation and civil repair works.
- Provide support for in-house events — layout planning, sound/lighting setup, and stage arrangements.
Purchase & procurement
- Coordinate with Operations, Purchase, and Stores for modification, replacement, and procurement of items; collect quotations and assist in vendor selection on technical grounds.
Disaster management
- Coordinate with the Safety Officer and Operations during water logging, electrical/water outages,
and lift failures; execute trained response plans.
- Prepare seasonal readiness plans for air-conditioning, drainage, and related systems.
Training & team management
- Train departmental staff on technical SOPs, documentation standards, and Disaster Management protocols.
- Conduct regular knowledge-sharing sessions and evaluate team performance; coordinate with HR for skill-gap training.
Quality & compliance
- Monitor Turn Around Time (TAT) for complaint resolution and maintain it as a key performance indicator.
- Track quality indicators, analyse trends, and implement improvement plans.
- Drive cost-effective initiatives — electrical savings, water conservation, fuel reduction.
- Support the QI team during internal and external audits within the maintenance scope.
- Redress patient and user complaints related to maintenance and resolve them promptly.
Financial controls
- Monitor and control diesel consumption (generators), telephone usage, electrical and water expenses, oxygen/gas supply, and ambulance fuel usage.
- Verify, validate, and authorise maintenance bills; forward to accounts after due approvals; maintain quotations for audit purposes.
- Prepare annual budgets, participate in departmental negotiations, and ensure accountability to minimise unnecessary expenditure.
Administration
- Prepare and implement maintenance policies, protocols, and work procedures for smooth operations.
- Maintain all documents — indents, stock accounts, bill copies, requisitions, and reports — for Internal Audit, Administration, Operations, and QA as required.
- Prepare and allocate duty rosters for the Maintenance team; manage cover for unplanned absences.
Workplace safety
- Ensure all protective equipment (electrical gloves, harnesses, helmets, raincoats, etc.) is available to maintenance staff; target zero workman injuries.
- Foster a respectful workplace and ensure zero tolerance for bullying.
