Role & responsibilities
- Carry out stage-wise inspection of pressure vessels, storage tanks, reactors, fermentation tanks, process piping, CIP systems, and pillow plate products during manufacturing.
- Monitor fabrication activities including plate cutting, rolling, forming, fit-up, welding, grinding, polishing, passivation, hydrotesting, and final assembly.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, nozzle orientation, weld quality, surface finish, and fabrication quality as per approved drawings.
- Ensure compliance with WPS, PQR, and qualified welder procedures.
- Supervise welding quality for TIG, MIG, laser welding, and other fabrication processes.
- Conduct and coordinate NDT activities such as Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiography (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), PMI, Ferrite Testing, and Vacuum Box Testing wherever applicable.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, quality records, material traceability documents, NCRs, CAPA reports, and Manufacturing Data Books (MDB).
- Perform incoming material inspection and verify Mill Test Certificates (MTCs).
- Coordinate with third-party inspection agencies and customer inspectors during stage inspections and final acceptance.
- Witness hydrostatic tests, pneumatic tests, leak tests, and factory acceptance tests.
- Identify fabrication defects and work closely with production to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Train shop-floor personnel on quality requirements, welding practices, and inspection standards.
- Participate in customer audits, ISO audits, and internal quality improvement initiatives.
- Drive a "Right First Time" quality culture across the manufacturing shop.
Preferred candidate profile
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering.
- 48 years of practical QA/QC experience in pressure vessel, heat exchanger, process equipment, or stainless steel fabrication industries.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding practices, and quality inspection methods.
- Experience with ASME Section VIII, IS Standards, TEMA, customer specifications, and fabrication drawings.
- Good understanding of WPS, PQR, WPQ, material traceability, and inspection documentation.
- Hands-on experience in NDT coordination and hydrotesting.
- Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication, polishing, passivation, and hygienic process equipment will be preferred.
- Exposure to laser welded pillow plate manufacturing or heat exchanger fabrication will be an added advantage.
- Willing to spend significant time on the shop floor and work closely with production teams.
- Robust problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and good communication skills.
