Hiring: Field Workplace Consultant, Bangalore / Hyderabad, India

J-PAL South Asia, housed at IFMR (MIT's Poverty Action Lab), is hiring a Field Environment Consultant for the Green Accelerator project. The project is implemented on the ground by TechnoServe India and covers 100+ green enterprises across 50+ cities in India. The role combines field data collection with backend environmental research, and success in this position looks like accurate, well documented Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data and avoided emissions calculations for each enterprise, delivered on schedule and aligned with the GHG Protocol and UN Clean Development standards.

This role reports to the Research Associate and Research Manager and is central to how the project measures the real world environmental impact of the businesses it supports.

Responsibilities: Understand the measurement framework and survey questionnaire thoroughly before each firm visit Carry out detailed data collection covering the financial, social, and environmental aspects of each enterprise Travel extensively across the region to meet entrepreneurs, understand their businesses, and administer the survey in person Build and maintain working relationships with green enterprise entrepreneurs and partner organizations involved in field activities Support the planning and execution of survey rounds across multiple data collection cycles Follow up with entrepreneurs by email and message to close out pending data Conduct secondary research to identify relevant emission factors and Life Cycle Analysis data points needed for carbon emissions calculations Perform backend calculations of Scope 1, Scope 2,



and Scope 3 emissions and avoided emissions for each business, and produce a final report per enterprise Report progress and findings regularly to the Research Associate and Research Manager Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent field; Master's degree is a plus Working knowledge of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions measurement Prior experience in environmental auditing or measurement is highly preferred Strong stakeholder management skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Flexible and self motivated, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently within a team Willingness to travel extensively within India, including occasional longer trips of up to 1000 km Familiarity with financial and accounting concepts for small businesses is a plus Understanding of Life Cycle Analysis and avoided emissions concepts is a plus Familiarity with SurveyCTO or similar data collection tools is a plus Location and terms: Based in Bangalore or Hyderabad, India, with regional travel required. Start date September 2026. Minimum commitment of one year.

Compensation in the range of INR 35,000 to 40,000 per month, based on experience. Travel, stay, and per diem costs are covered by J-PAL.
