Orikai is a children’s clothing brand where timeless tailoring meets playful charm. Inspired by heritage dressing and old-money aesthetics, we create thoughtfully designed clothing for children aged 2–12 years, with an emphasis on beautiful fabrics, refined silhouettes, comfort, and quality craftsmanship.
We’re looking for a Fashion Design Intern to work closely with our design and production team and experience the complete journey of building a collection — from the first idea and fabric swatch to the final garment.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to understand not just how to design clothes, but how to actually bring them to life.
Responsibilities: Design & Collection Development
- Assist in developing concepts, moodboards, colour stories and collection themes
- Research silhouettes, fabrics, trims, details and seasonal trends
- Assist in developing new styles across dresses, co-ord sets, shirts, trousers and other kidswear categories
- Help translate references and concepts into commercially viable designs while maintaining Orikai's aesthetic Sampling & Product Development
- Work closely with the team from initial sketch to final approved sample
- Coordinate with pattern masters, tailors and vendors during sampling
- Follow up on samples and maintain development timelines
- Check garment proportions, fit, construction, finishing and overall appearance
- Maintain records of sample iterations and approvals
- Final QC post production Fabric, Trims & Sourcing
- Assist with sourcing fabrics, buttons, laces, trims and other materials
- Visit fabric and trim markets/vendors when required
- Create and maintain fabric, trim and swatch libraries
- Research new materials and finishes suitable for children's clothing
- Coordinate with suppliers for sampling requirements and availability Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Fashion Design or related field
Internship or coursework experience in kidswear Basic understanding of fabrics, garment construction, pattern-making and finishing techniques
Organized, proactive, and excited to learn in a rapid-moving startup Availability:
Full-time, 6 days per week
Available full-time on-site in Mumbai
Duration: 3 months, can convert into full time
