Role Purpose

The Backend Engineer will own the development and continuous improvement of secure, scalable backend services, APIs, data models and integrations supporting LifeCraft’s digital ecosystem. The role will work across the existing platform and new capabilities, balancing delivery speed with reliability, security, maintainability and pragmatic architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Platform and API Engineering

- Design, develop, test and maintain modular backend services and versioned RESTful APIs using Node.js and Express.js.
- Translate product requirements into maintainable service logic, API contracts and technical designs.
- Support platform modules including communities, events, consultations, content, notifications, payments and member journeys.
- Make pragmatic architecture decisions and introduce service separation only where it improves reliability, security or delivery.

Data, Integration and Commerce

- Design effective MongoDB schemas, indexes and data-access patterns; optimise queries and support migration, backup and recovery practices.
- Integrate authentication, Razorpay payment workflows, identity verification,



content moderation, notifications and other third-party services.
- Implement resilient integration patterns including validation, idempotency, error handling, retries, audit trails and reconciliation where relevant.
- Protect personal, identity and payment-related information throughout its lifecycle.

Security, Reliability and Engineering Excellence

- Implement secure authentication and authorisation, input validation, secrets management and protection against common API vulnerabilities.
- Write unit and integration tests; participate in peer reviews and maintain explicit API and operational documentation.
- Monitor production health, logs and alerts; troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis and resolve defects within agreed priorities.
- Contribute to CI/CD, release discipline, performance optimisation, cloud-cost awareness and reduction of technical debt.
- Work with frontend, product, design, AI and external engineering partners; share knowledge and help establish internal engineering standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

- 4–7 years of backend software development for production web or mobile products, including at least 3 years with Node.js and Express.js.
- Strong JavaScript fundamentals; hands-on experience with MongoDB/NoSQL data modelling and REST API design.
- Experience integrating authentication, payment or other third-party APIs and working with Git-based collaborative delivery.
- Working knowledge of AWS deployment, logging/monitoring and CI/CD concepts.
- Sound understanding of application security, data protection and reliable production support.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation and communication skills; comfortable working in an early-stage, high-ownership environment.

Preferred

- TypeScript, automated testing, API documentation tooling and containerised delivery experience.




- Razorpay or similar payment integration, including refunds, webhooks, reconciliation or payouts.
- Identity/KYC, moderation, notifications, real-time features, queues/caching or AI/LLM service integration.
- Experience in a consumer community, marketplace, learning, events or SaaS product.
- Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience. Certifications are valued but not mandatory.
