We're hiring an EM who has already run a team through this transition. Not someone who approved a Copilot licence purchase; someone who reorganised how their team plans, reviews, and ships, and can tell us what got worse before it got better.

Responsibilities Team leadership: Lead a team of 6-10 backend and platform engineers: hiring, performance, growth plans, and retention.

Own delivery for your team's charter roadmap commitments, quality, and on-call health.

Coach senior and lead engineers, including on the judgment calls that agentic workflows demand (what to delegate, what to review line-by-line, what never to automate).

Own the agentic SDLC at team level.

Own how your team applies agentic tooling across the full lifecycle: spec and design, implementation, review, testing, and production monitoring and hold the bar on where it doesn't apply.

Redesign the process artefacts that agents break: story sizing and estimation, definition of done, review checklists, PR size norms, and test expectations for agent-authored changes.

Define and enforce the quality gates: what merges on green tests, what requires human sign-off, what needs a design review before an agent touches it.

Instrument the workflow and manage from data: cycle time, review latency, escaped defect rate, revert rate, coverage on agent-authored dis, incident MTTR.

Report honestly on what moved and what didn't.

Set guardrails for security, data handling, licensing, and compliance when agents have access to source code and production data with healthcare data; this is non-negotiable.

Run enablement: onboard new hires into these workflows in weeks, not quarters, and build the internal know-how so it isn't concentrated in one or two people.

Cross-functional:

Partner with Product, Clinical/Domain, and Data teams on scope, sequencing, and trade-offs.

Work with peer EMs and leadership on platform-wide standards, shared tooling, and headcount planning.

Represent your team's technical direction in architecture reviews.

Requirements 9+ years in software engineering with 3+ years managing engineers directly, including hiring and performance management.

Solid technical grounding in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices enough to review a design doc critically, push back on an architecture, and read a PR.

You will not be writing most of the code, but you cannot be a spectator.

Hands-on experience leading a team through agentic SDLC adoption in the last 12 months with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Devin, Copilot agent mode, or equivalent, applied across at least three of: design, implementation, review, testing, and production debugging.

Plus what you did about each.

Track record of delivering in production with real accountability for reliability and on-call.

Strong stakeholder management across product, domain experts, and leadership.

Nice to have: scaled a team's output measurably (with the metrics to back it) after agentic adoption.

Built or sponsored internal agent tooling: custom agents, MCP integrations to Jira/BigQuery/observability, repo-level instruction files.

Experience rethinking career ladders or interview loops for an agent-assisted engineering org. LLM evaluation, regression harnesses, or accuracy pipelines.

Observability practice ownership (New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana) and agent-assisted incident triage. Healthcare, FHIR/HL7 or medical coding domain exposure.

GCP or AWS; PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Neo4j.
